If Nurse is out for two weeks, he will miss 6 games. Within that stretch, the Oilers play Chicago, Dallas, Arizona, Vegas, Pittsburgh, and Seattle; it would not be the end of the word if Edmonton gave their prospects some NHL reps and went 3-3 in that run.
The situation gets really problematic if Nurse is beyond two weeks because games against L.A., Minnesota, Boston, Carolina, Toronto, and Columbus are what follows. On paper, that second group of teams has potential to run roughshod over Edmonton's depleted cohort. Its not unreasonable to worry that the impact of Nurse's absence could run Edmonton's record in that stretch to 0-6.
There is a short window of time before things might become critical for Edmonton. I hope Holland is taking a bit of time to assess the market. No doubt his counterparts will try to take advantage of the Oilers and demand a steep price for any available assets. If he is going to overpay, Holland has to find the best possible fit for his team. Whether Chiarot is the best fit depends on what other options might be out there.
