In what universe do they want to trade their future #1 d man for a winger making an ungodly sum of money for the next two years?
Edit: I’m sure you wouldn’t trade Bouchard for Marner.

Breaking up the core 4
I have <strong>loved</strong> the dozens of ACGMs posted by Toronto stalwarts in the past week or so in which they admit, intentionally or not, explicitly or not, that what they really want NOW is to have their team constructed from the bottom up like Los Angeles is doing, and not from the top down like permanent also-rans Toronto and Edmonton have.
Los Angeles will have no trouble re-upping Matt Roy in 2024 when Kopitar's and Petersen's cap hits come off the books, freeing up $14 million plus the cap rise. Gee, I wonder who might be signing a seven-year, $100 million contract then?

Absolutely not for CBJ. They're hoping Jiricek develops into the 1RD that they desperately need. Dach is more of what they've had for years which is a middle 6C.

Pretty sure Montreal just sticks their course of action</div></div>
Montreal sticking to their course of action is the key point.
You're going to have to give huge value in Montreal's favor to make it worth changing course.

If PLD isn’t coming to MTL this offseason, the plan doesn’t change. The plan could change if MTL win the lottery (1OA)</div></div>
I'm saying I don't know what the big attraction is for PLD.....Forget about 23/24, why pay assets to acquire him? Habs are going to finish out of the playoffs spring of 2024 anyway. The bigger question is, are the Habs going to overpay for this 2nd liner as a UFA, or even as RFA if he resigns long term this summer.?

The cost of Dubois
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OilersRule</b></div><div>Trading anything for Dubois is ridiculous.
This team is still not a playoff contender in the east for 2023-24.
So giving up assets to have Dubois now, AND burn a year off his contract with another lackluster season, doesn't make much sense.
Drouin is awful and Hughes should be fired if he considers re-signing him AND playing him at C, Dvorak is a better keep at 3C.
Moving that Florida pick would be a bad idea, especially with Sandin-pellikka or Wood projected around there, keep the pick, stock the system, sign Dubois in FA, then figure out the goaltending situation.</div></div>
What no one talks about if if they trade for him the Habs lose leverage in negotiations and pld can ask for whatever dollar figure he wants.
It makes a lot more sense in a rebuild to go without the quick fix and if he really wants to go to Montreal then sign a reasonable deal as a free agent.
Giving up the Florida pick isn’t needed.
Chevy can trade Pld for a late 1st and mid prospect at the deadline. Habs won’t care as they don’t need Dubois with so much depth down the middle for the future and an option at signing him as a free agent.
They sign him, great, otherwise they are well on track to be competitive in 3 years
It makes no sense blowing up the rebuild. But Jets fans that think he’s worth this massive package including A prospects and a top15 pick aren’t thinking about compromise and have no clue about leverage dynamics

10-12oa in a deep draft

another top 50 pick
its Clayton Keller... hes a ppg player on a fair to good contract dont glorify him lol</div></div>
Perhaps my previous comment was misleading. It is not a drastic overpayment, and that would be what it takes to pry Keller out. PPG winger on one of the worst teams in the league, on a bargain bin contract with 5 years remaining starting next year, and more than likely to be the next captain of the Yotes, that offer is a lowball.
You say that Lapierre is a high end C prospect. Just as a comparable, he isn’t better than Ryan Suzuki, and Suzuki isn’t considered to be a “high end C prospect”. I am a fan of Lapierre, but he is not as high end as you believe him to be. Plus, C is the last position Arizona would go for, considering they have Cooley and Geekie in the pipeline, Hayton with the Yotes, and I won’t rule out the possibility that a big name C ends up signing there within the next couple of years. As for what I have seen from Iorio, which hasn’t been that much, he is a bit more of a mystery Wild card to me. Besides, Keller is one of their biggest revenue generators. Unless a team is reaching into their untouchable purse, there is no reason for the Yotes to sell Keller.

Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OilersRule</b></div><div>That's the thing, if he had no suitors, I would agree, discount for term with St-louis or Toronto.
I just get the impression that teams like Detroit, Montreal, Columbus, Philly and Vancouver could use him to work with the young guys, and give him 2nd line minutes.
Though I would personally like to see him go back to Colorado on a $5M contract, that would be interesting in the west.</div></div>
Oh I bet most teams would call on him. He is a very interesting free agent.
He would fit a huge need for Colorado as well. That would be scary.
I would personally still give him the 5m a year contract and not resign Bunting in this situation. I like Bunting but O'Reilly would be a higher priority for me.

Yzerman is trying to build his MIchigan roster, so, maybe Detroit for Zadina, Cossa and two 2023 2nd's (Detroit and St-Louis) or something along those lines.
Seattle or St-Louis could probably make something work too.</div></div>
Detroit is pretty much who I had in mind that he’d walk to in free agency, I could see zadina, the blues 2nd, and the 24 Boston 1st. More than that and I think he just waits it out to see if he hits free agency

How We Could Have Managed Assets And Cap Better
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OilersRule</b></div><div>Time will tell, I don't see McCabe trending well on a team that focuses on speed and mobility, Sandin was likely a better long term option, and 4 LHD with your only RHD being Lil and Timmins doesn't bode well unless one of them really shows they are ready to ride bigger minutes.
Marner and Tavares should be enough to keep you out of the basement, but with teams like Montreal/Ottawa/Detroit/Buffalo with young high end prospects, they can easily leap the Leafs.
And I disagree, you can blame the players, but the GM hasn't exactly put them in a position to win, they needed a goalie, Toronto fans went full re***d thinking Murray was going to be a saviour, and it's been total trash with him having an occasional good game between his half dozen times he's been on IR, he's made no real concerted effort to address the D weakness, it's reclamation projects, and that's only this season.</div></div>
Honestly the issues TOR are dealing with now are self-inflicted. We insisted on keeping guys like Holl, Kerfoot & Engvall while making a trade for Murray who’s expensive and been below average for 3 straight years when we could’ve used that 12 million to get a top 6 F like Bjorkstrand and a top 4 D (even taking on McCabe’s full cap hit without giving up a first or moving Sandin). We are too loyal to guys who don’t fit the system or are straight up not competing at NHL level.
