I feel like Boosh with retention for a 3rd and Rifai or Kokkonen is the trade that makes sense for both teams.

TOR Bringing Him Back
That's SO much for Boosh!!! It's not actually I guess, SDA has gone back to Russia and won't play in Toronto again (apparently) and Hirvonen is a guy that I really like but maybe the Leafs are okay giving him up in a deal like this. I think he has too much upside for this honestly.
I like the idea of bringing Boosh back, but I think it probably makes more sense for it to be like the 3rd and Rifai than the 5th and a better prospect who's closer like Hirvonen.

No, you're not going to get 3+ core pieces for a 1C, nor are you going to get a young 1D. Ground your expectations before you want to end up killing Allvin for a "disappointing" return.</div></div>
It sounds like he's going to re-sign, but my post mentioned quality over quantity. If the Wings (or someone else) traded for Petterson, I think it would be something like Raymond, a good prospect and a 1st or Seider and a mid prospect or possibly straight up. It's not multiple core pieces, Nucks don't have enough leverage for that.

Off Season Trade
Petterson is an RFA.
This would be interesting because that's a top 5 pick plus Nazar and Moore. That's a lot of value but it turns the Nucks from contenders into a mini-rebuild and I doubt they want to do that.

What's fair value? Way more than that. This Petterson drama is fascinating because he's an RFA at the end of the year, they aren't trading him by the deadline. But at the draft the sweepstakes could get insane.
I think the league has transitioned a bit away from quantity in these types of trades and the Nucks will want less pieces who are better players and I think this trade has to include one of Raymond or Seider.

A Low Key Leaf Deadline
I mostly wanted to see if I could make this fit. The Leafs take low key bets on one of Lyubushkin or Carrier fitting with Rielly, and the other being a depth piece. Essentially the Leafs are doubling down on the lineup they're using now during this win streak (which just ended) which is something we do in Toronto a lot and tends to hurt us doubling down on short term success stories lol.
I didn't know what to do with Reaves and Jones here though. It's under the cap just barely but with an extra player on the roster. I think they could trade Jones and actually get a pick back, maybe not recoup that 3rd but like not nothing in return. And I bet Reaves would clear waivers, but is that that move they want to make? I don't know.

Leafs get Parayko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Nah, dude. The Blues won't want a deluge of picks eating up the value. They would want nothing to do with Bertuzzi. And you're really selling those values on the other two. This would not get anyone Parayko, let alone two more players. Other than the 24 1st, which can be used to trade up, nothing is of very much interest. And trading Parayko would demolish the defense. To rubble. With no replacement in sight. That package might seem like a haul for you, the Blues would turn their nose up at it because its nothing they actually need + now they also have one of the hardest holes to adequately fill in the league, 1RD.
Real talk: the Leafs do not have the trade assets to get Parayko. Not even close. There's no great coveted prospects that fit needs, no young NHL replacement type, no cap space to eat, no super high draft pick, the guys we'd love to dump won't waive for Toronto... it's all a rich tapestry. The Oilers, for instance, are better equipped by a considerable margin. And Colt might actually waive to play there, hypothetically.
But yes, the Blues have no reason to trade Parayko. We agree there, and I cannot help but appreciate when someone understands that.</div></div>
Do the Oilers have the pieces to get Parayko? I guess its Broberg really. None of the Oilers top prospects are as good as Minten or Cowan.
Where I will somewhat disagree with you is the idea of trading one of the guys. I don't think the Blues are going anywhere with a top 4 of Parayko, Krug, Faulk, and Leddy, they're locked into those 4 guys, and I don't know that any of Tucker, Kessel, Perunovich or any of their prospects are coming to steal those jobs anytime soon. All 4 of those guys have no-trades, Faulk and Parayko both wear letters and Krug already exercised his no-trade. Trading one of them would be smart. But trading them for a collection of stuff you could flip later probably isn't the right plan either.
There are a lot of IFs in my trade offer and maybe its close to correct value, but it doesn't really make sense for the Blues.

Leafs Build for the Future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>svfsdv</b></div><div>Just say you dont know who any of these guys are and leave it at that. You look more reasonable telling the truth lol Niemela is probably the 4th, maybe 5th most valuable piece here. But he was the one you focused on? lol</div></div>
He's easily the best asset you gave the Blues for their young winger. I do know all of those players. Nobody wants Timmins. We don't even use Timmins. Steeves and Abbruzese are throw ins. Neither guy makes the Blues roster right now anyway, again, they aren't on our roster. Niemela I love. He's a right shot, he's smart, he's a good skater, he's undersized but I think he has a real chance to be a really good 2nd pair dman who can help on the PP and second half of your PK. He's not worth Jake Neighbours who has 19 goals as a 21 year old. This trade is enough if Neighbours demanded to be traded right now and would only accept a trade to the Leafs or he would release scandalous photos of the Blues team president, otherwise, its not close.

Leafs Build for the Future
I love this version of the NHL where the Leafs can trade a bunch of stuff for other teams borderline foundational pieces.
The level of assets isn't that far off, but why would the Blues trade their 21 year old 20 goal scorer for an unproven Niemela and a bunch of junk?
That's probably not totally insane for Jiricek, but I doubt they're trading him for quantity rather than quality.

I agree with your confusion. Unless its just the idea that Debrincat is now untouchable? If suddenly tomorrow Debrincat asked to be traded to Buffalo, this is a sensible return.

Offseason Swap for team needs
This isn't enough for Jiricek, but I bet its something like this that ends up getting done. Kulich is one of the best center prospects in the league, and he isn't as good as what Jiricek could potentially be, but him and like a 2nd and maybe another piece is probably what ends up getting done.
My personal prediction is something gets done with Jiricek to Seattle for Shane Wright, but Kulich is on that level with a little less upside than Wright.

Why would Montreal say no? Here, take this exciting young potential superstar for a bunch of your middling assets?
I think if the Ducks trade Zegras, its more like the Gauthier trade than a bunch of stuff, they don't need to add to their collection of middle of the lineup players. I think Reinbacher would need to be in the deal. If Zegras was going to get traded for picks and prospects, it would be done by now.

Why not just send Brownie to Pittsburgh in this deal? Dubas loves Brownie anyway and theres absolutely no way he clears waivers.
Guentzel to Edmonton would be terrifying and if Pittsburgh does choose to deal him, this is a pretty good package.

Wild re-tool Wings upgrade their own re-tool
This is a humongous underpay for one of the more explosive players in the league. Wings should be looking to consolidate some of their guys though, especially with the way their D is set up. And Holl is a negative asset with that contract, especially to Minnesota who is hurting for cap space.
And yes, cap space is a major factor for Minnesota, if they're going to dump someone to re-position their cap space, it's going to be Brodin, its not going to be their superstar.

Leafs - Blue Jackets
In this market, Jackets aren't trading Jenner without a 1st at least. The Leafs best hope for getting Jenner (who is an unreal fit) is the 1st and Minten and maybe Bertuzzi re-routed and the Leafs try to extract something else out of Columbus that they can flip or use like Peeke or Boqvist or even Jake Bean? Leafs probably don't have the assets to get Jenner.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Noooope.</div></div>
I'm assuming the Blues don't trade Parayko. I just think if it does happen, its a package kind of like this one. Blues are getting 4 draft picks, including a 1st, the reigning captain of Canada's world junior team who projects as a middle 6 center as early as next season, a right shot D who has a chance to still be a 2nd pair guy and is an RFA. If a Parayko trade happens, that's a haul.
I don't think the Blues SHOULD trade Parayko though lol.

Leafs get Parayko
I thought of this in another thread, I think this is close to the way the Leafs would be getting Parayko. Parayko is good, but with 7 years at 6.5 left, that deal is a slight negative to his value. Blues get a young NHLer, a 1st, a prospect, and a couple extra picks for eating salary on Bertuzzi and flipping him to the Rangers.
Bertuzzi has a no move and Parayko has a no trade so that could hurt both of those players moving. It might be a slight overpay from the Rangers for Bertuzzi, but with retention I bet that's what it costs.

Leafs Get Their Guy
I think if the Leafs do end up pulling off a Parayko trade, it includes Minten. Leafs aren't getting someone like Neighbours, its more likely Walker or Toropchenko or even some strange move where they get Kevin Hayes? Depends what the Blues are trying to do. If it does include Brodie though, or maybe Bertuzzi, they get flipped to another team with the Blues retaining for more picks/players. Blues I think have all 3 retention spots.
This isn't close to enough. Abbruzesse and Robertson have minimal value, Gregor is a contract slot dump, and even flipped, Brodie is probably like a 2nd and another pick maybe?

Ristolainen I guess
Jfresh posted on twitter he could see the Leafs getting Laughton with Risto and it being a very "Leafy" trade and I unfortunately agree.
The Flyers aren't getting anyone to take Ristolainen without retention and without also sending other pieces back. And the Leafs 100% cannot afford to trade FOR Ristolainen. He's 29, he has 3 MORE years at 5.1, and his improved numbers are likely due to the fact that he's only playing 16 minutes a night this year. He's a waiver guy if he's on a reasonable number. This wouldn't be a good trade for the Leafs.

Leafs reshuffle Canes reset
This is a bit of an unconventional trade. The motivation for the Canes is they clear the rest of Kotkaniemi's deal, which allows them to re-sign Jarvis, Teravainen, Necas, Drury, and Skjei who are all expiring. They don't lose much the rest of the season because Liljegren can slide right in with Skjei, or drop down and Orlov can move over to the right side. Plus they swap out Kotkaniemi, who is currently listed as their 4C, for 2 guys who can move around in their top 9. For the Leafs, Kotkaniemi with a change of scenery and with his skill set, is likely a big upgrade as the Leafs 3C, or he can take on the center role on the Tavares line and allow the Leafs to move Tavares to the wing. Pesce is an obvious fit with Rielly on the Leafs top pair.
The Canes probably wouldn't go for it, but if they are going to pick one of Pesce or Skjei on D, getting rid of Kotkaniemi's cap hit in the process would be a coup.

Leafs and Isles Shake Up
Going to be honest, I don't know how the Isles value Romanov and I don't know how willing they are to move him. The Isles are super locked up long term to a bunch of players and getting a chance to try out an expiring Bertuzzi and a different type of dman like McCabe while also getting out of the other 2 years on Pageau's deal and giving themselves some flexibility. The Isles have something like 79 million locked up in 2 goalies, 5 D, and 8 forwards or something like that. They have no wiggle room to change up what is currently a non-playoff team. Bertuzzi I think would be a good fit and maybe Roy can bring out the better parts of him.
The Leafs on the other hand need a 3C pretty desperately and Pageau gives them a solution for now and the next couple years. Stylistically, he even fits as the center for the Tavares line if that becomes the 3rd line next season.

Does Calgary see his contract as a liability?</div></div>
I have a feeling a trade like this one has a chance. Calgary has Wolf ready and they need to get him in there, if they aren't getting anything for Vladar, it might make sense to explore a Markstrom trade, which is something that's in the news. Goalies tend to not get traded for as much anyway. Samsonov is only in there to match the cap. He's expiring, he isnt a negative asset for Calgary, they can flip him elsewhere or send him to the minors or just send him home for the rest of the year, it doesn't really effect them.
I have been thinking about posting a similar trade idea, but consider this one Minten, a 1st, and a 3rd for Markstrom and Tanev which is probably a little light but I think its close. Tanev is going to get traded for a 2nd I think, maybe 2 3rds if the offers don't get high enough. Minten, Abruzzese, a 1st, and 2 3rds is probably hitting the sweet spot. Abruzzese is a meh prospect, but he has built in chemistry with Coronato so I've heard the Flames are interested.
