Sweet sweet justification
It takes a special fan base to miss out on a player (Montour), and then still come on here and brag about it. Calling people "haters" and "trolls", and then asking for "less drama". That's not ironic at all...
Here are two pats on the back for you and the rest of Leafs Nation. You're right and everyone else is wrong.
Please allow us to take solace knowing that, despite the extremely talented ACGM's from the greatest fan base on earth, we still get to watch Ron Hainsey and Nikita Zaitsev for 20+ minutes a night.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>Well, Nylander hasn't produced as much offense as good as Pesce's defense done. Carolina doesn't need anyone from Toronto, you guys need pesce more than carolina needs anyone from Toronto. They need Pesce more than anyone from your team. This is why it would cost more. Also the bonuses Carolina would have to pay, and the problems with what his contract will be compared to what Pesce's better contract and a steal of a contract.</div></div>
Well..no one is trading for Nylander this year...nor is he available...so any bonsues get taken care of after July 1st by the leafs.
2nd...it's kind of ignorant to take a small sample size on Nylander to make a blanket statement on his offence.
3rd....leafs seem to be doing just fine as a top 5/6 team in the league without any help from Carolina or their defence...how is that spectacular D helping Carolina's efforts? Seems to me the hurricanes have more to gain from finding scoring than the leafs have to gain from adding D...so that will not tilt the scales in any trade offer.
4th...Pesce is one dimensional. He's an incredible, young, shut-down d-man. The leafs could certainly use that...but he's not what I would view as a 'complete package' type player (nor is Nylander for that matter)...but he's not the type of player the leafs should consider trading off a core piece for
Leafs would be better off not making any trade than doing Nylander + for Pesce (and it appears they currently are better off)

My main issues is your value on Johnnson and Kappi. There have been many players that are in their position that dont get such homerun contracts. See Brown, Brown was coming off his ELC and had a 20 goal campaign playing a mix of top 6 minutes (sound familiar) and signed for 2.1$. There is no way Kappi and Johnnson get his much. I would rather give one a one year contract for low AAV and risk paying out higher when Marleau expires then to just give up now and over pay. I just dont understand.</div></div>
I think his point is to show how much room there is once you trade Nylander.

TDL 18 - One trade solves it all
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Davisoc</b></div><div>The idea of this trade is a playoff push and nothing else. I remember who Nylander is better than most. But no Nylander in the history of his playing has been snake bit this bad. At some point you need to focus on next year and the year after that. Will Nylander help the leafs win a cup? I dont know. I remember him being almost not noticeable the last two series against Boston. What would not go unnoticed would be a shutdown guy to play with Gardiner and a tough guy that can give Toronto space and an edge in a series against Boston. It is also REALLY hard to ignore that Sparks and Hutchinson just arent good enough.</div></div>
I completely disagree, Nylander actually looked not too bad in the playoffs last year. He did finish with a goal and 3 assists, he also was much better once he was moved away from Matthews. Him being snake bitten has far more to do with him missing training camp and a third of the season and then trying to keep up to guy sin mid season form. Pesce would play on the top pair with Rielly and he would be a huge upgrade over Hainsey but he's not a saviour and he doesn't win you a cup. He just makes it easier for Rielly to do what he does and you see less "God dammit Hainsey, just retire!" moments.
Ferland is less valuable than Hyman but has better hands. He doesn't win you a cup either. All this is just people buying into old school hockey thinking, media speculation and the mob mentality. Everyone is saying the leafs need tough guys to deal with Boston. That is wrong, they need to rise above the physical play. They have more talent than Boston and they need to be determined enough to take the hit, out skate the next hit and tire out Boston. That is step 1, play a full 60 minutes regularly with 100% effort. Do that and then you'll know exactly how good the team is. Overpaying to fix issues that we don't really know if its a huge problem or not is poor asset management.

Makes sense, however Scheif at $6.125M>Matthews at $11M I wouldn't make that deal if I'm Winnipeg.
EDIT: What's even stopping Matthews at 11M? He can easily get 12-14. I just said 11 because I've been copying everyone on this site when really he's already better than Tavares.

I think they'd need to pry him from Dubas and Babs' hands too. No one else on the leafs brings what kadri brings. I think your premise is wrong about term. Guys on long term reasonable deals like Pesce are like gold. Teams who pay, even overpay for the future cap certainty. If Pesce and Kadri are equal in playing value for the length of Kadri's contract, the Leafs would gladly add to the trade for two more years of Pesce.

I understand, its really unfortunate that Liljegren is going to miss the world juniors, I was really hoping that his play there would be dominate enough to change my mind on him as a prospect. At least it would have given us leaf fans a much better perspective on his comparison to other prospects within the league. Oh well, time will tell.

I think you both have a chance of being right with your opposing comments above. It’s simply differing opinions based on how you each value Pietrangelo and the Leafs’ D prospects.
Personally, I’m skeptical on Liljegren. Mono is not the sole reason he dropped that far in the draft. Other teams must have seen something in his game that gave them cause for concern. Is it possible that Liljegren or Sandin might one day play at the level of Pietrangelo? Sure. I just don’t think it’s probable which is why I would pull the trigger on a deal like this.
That being said, I think it’s a much safer play for Dubas to make low risk additions (pending UFAs) at the deadline and give his D prospects time to develop and hopefully contribute at some point while on entry level contracts.
This website wouldn’t be any fun tho if we all just rolled with the ‘safe’ approach

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Davisoc</b></div><div>The value is right here, but I personally dont think this is worth it. Banking on two expiring contracts for a one year push doesn't plan for the future. Plus, never trade a young defenseman that shows the promise that Lili does. He has been looking amazing. Sandin and Lili look like they are going to grown together into a power house. There value goes way above and beyond that of Petro in the long term. Parayko, I would be forced to reconsider, but Petro is a big no from me.</div></div>
This seems to be the feedback from most Leafs fans - and it makes a lot of sense. I don't think Dubas would be very interested in pushing in all of his chips, but this would be about the value I'd want to see if we move Pietrangelo.

Agree with Davisoc above, why the first place Flames want to weaken their defence. And the Gudas trade, seems to be the traditional Leaf trade. A third pairing RHD on a non playoff team is suddenly better than the top 5 Leaf team Dmen and somehow now is a 2nd pairing DMAN.

Currently on 1st line if you want to be exactly correct but I get what you are saying but Brown was 20 goal scorer (in his rookie year) and played with McDavid in juniors as linemate for 2 seasons. He has all the tools to be with McDavid. You wont get bonified top line forward for Larsson... and Zaitsev is not a bad contract, he needs to be not on Gardiners right side and he would be very suprisingly good.

They played 2 seasons together and both times he was better scorer. Brown and McDavid have long lasting chemistry and they should be great together.

I don't get why a Canes fan opinion is required as some sort of seal of approval? I would imagine most Leafs fan don't want anything to do with Justin Faulk. So if you'd ask a Leafs fan, there's really no price they'd be willing to pay to bring in Jake Gardiner 2.0. Now, while I do think, ultimately, Connor Brown will be available at some point, it won't happen until the draft. And as I've mentioned countless times before, I think you'd have to blow the Leafs away on a deal for them to give up their 1st round draft pick, regardless of how low or high it is. It seems that there will always be a place for either a Justin Faulk or Chris Tanev to Leafs deal somewhere on these AGMs :P
