Hughes is our RD1
Playing LD has more benefits on defense and allows him to spin off hits more easily and avoid vulnerable positions. Offensively he does whatever he wants anyway.

Michkov coming over next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Renegade_H</b></div><div>What you offering? I will personally driving from Florida to Philly to take him to the airport.</div></div>
I think a Couturier trade would be tough for any team to figure. He's still a very good two-way C with size and leadership which drives his value up, but he's also a disgruntled, injury riddled expensive long term 30+ contract which would hamper a team's willingness to pay premium assets for him. The Hertl trade is probably the best comparable. The Canucks still probably have OEL PTSD and would only be interested if its dirt cheap or there's retention.

Couturier also switched agents, given what happened this year could he be moved?
Swapping him for Michkov would be a clear signal to the new generation.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FoxYou727</b></div><div>Pulock is an interesting trade idea. I see a lot of Jets fans proposing an Ehlers for Pulock swap so that gives you a base for value. Hoglander would be the main piece I'd want personally, I'd be fine taking a contract back too + 1st. Maybe I am overvaluing him but RD are apparently the hardest position to find which I find strange considering 80% of the world is right handed</div></div>
Directly matching Ehlers-Pulock for the Canucks would probably be Boeser-Pulock, but the Canucks can't afford to give up their only true scoring winger.
I'd consider something around Hoglander but I'm not sure it would be worth it move a young, effective, cost controlled player for a 30+ player. It would be a big hit to move him along with a 1st. For a contract going back it would likely be Mikheyev. For it to be appealing for the Canucks the structure of the deal would be something like Mikheyev + Podkolzin + 1st 2025 + 2nd 2025. You could choose any prospect other than Lekkerimaki or Wallinder.
You could probably get Marner for him though.

Changes needed
Interesting to read your assessment of the team.
From the outside the team just doesn't have the depth to hang with the best team in the East, nothing to be ashamed of but not something that can be easily fixed.
Sergachev playing is absolutely insane and one of the most impressive things I've seen in the NHL this year.
Do you think Jeannot could be moved for cap? I think the Canucks would be interested in his style of play and he could fit better in our system.

Any chance Pulock would shake loose if the team looks to make big changes? With Dobson ahead of him at RHD maybe look to move a long term contract for a 30+ player?

Another Canes Trade
Intriguing idea if the Canucks believe Kotkaniemi can be an effective 3C. I think he'd fit our system well and although I'm not sold on his overall ceiling, getting a player signed through his 20s could be better than signing a UFA for that spot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>Batherson probably has more value than Boeser though because he has 3 more years on his contract at a cheap cap hit while Boeser is a UFA after next season</div></div>
I believe that Boeser will take a long term deal at low cap hit to stay in VAN similar to RNH. Something like 8 years at 6M-7M, which would be a bargain deal and below market value. Independent of that I don't like sending out that many assets for a non-impact player at a non-premium position.
One of the characteristics of Rutherford teams is the defense is pretty inexpensive and doesn't require super high end players all over to be effective. We got our stud #1 and they are content to fill holes around that with different types of players like Zadorov and Soucy. Hronek might push it but I don't think they'd be looking at burning assets on another defenseman, more likely a forward. Simply re-signing Zadorov would be a much better move for the organization in my eyes.
I think this team is very solid though.

I think Batherson - Boeser is a downgrade. That makes the rest way too much for 1 year of Chychrun.

I think Mikheyev would be a good fit for you guys and could play with either one of McDrai, but his value is in a weird spot because his knee injury has hampered his entire tenure with the Canucks,

I don't understand why Hagel's cap hit had to be that high on a max term extension. At the time of signing he didn't have an extensive NHL resume and his production didn't warrant that cap hit. I understand the value of locking him up in his prime years, I just think they could have gotten him at like 5M instead.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div>Brady is worth more than just Willander lol. Everyone will always over value their own players on here so it's pretty impossible to get realistic trades. Like I would want Lekkerimaki + Willander for Brady + JBD but Sens fans will say its not enough and Canucks fans will say its way to much.</div></div>
When's the last time two A prospects were packaged together? I understand that would be your ask but you have to understand that its not happening.
As good as Brady is he's a winger, teams pay premiums for C's and RHDs. Brady is a top tier player and a unicorn style wise but his cap hit isn't small either. Hronek is a top tier asset being a RHD, balances the cap and fills an organizational need for you. I'm not sure there's going to be a much better single asset out there. Throw in an A prospect a 1st and the deal is already overflowing with value you. I'd be surprised if two of them were included in a deal let alone three.

I agree that Graves could be good for us but I don't see any reason to take on the risk the term on his deal. We don't need LHD and if we did we could find other ones. I'd rather keep Zadorov.
Kotkaniemi is interesting and has some upside but again the risk is in the term of his deal. Being buyout friendly is a bonus though. For that price I wouldn't mind but I'd like some assurance that he'll be put in a good spot with good linemates to succeed. Your suggestion of putting him with Joshua and Garland could work as they can energize anyone it seems. It would be worth letting Pettersson know about it as well.

Top NHL Prospects-- give me your thoughts
Incredible job with the list. I haven't kept up with prospects around the league like I used to when VAN was in the gutter but it's a nice surprise to see Lekkerimaki in the top-5.
If the Flyers somehow mess up Michkov its a crime against hockey.

Off-season
I know Toffoli fits on paper as a top-6 winger, but I'm not convinced he's what this team needs. We don't have enough speed to offset Toffoli's lack of speed in our fast paced forechecking offence, Boeser already takes up that spot. I understand we could use another piece in the top-6 but I don't think there are any good options for the summer.
