We would be starting from scratch. Projected launch (team picking) is June 1. 2018 Entry Draft is a couple of days later. Then we have FA. This would all be for the 2018-2019 season.

Wait, so are all contracts for player rights now starting in 2018-19? We're past the trade deadline.

Also, wouldn't it maybe make more sense to have the v3 draft after the SCF so that we a) know the draft order, and b) know how our team did (if they're in the final that is, or 3rd round if it's still going then, which it probably won't be).

Yes, newly signed contracts are effective for '18-19 and begin to count against the 50-contract limit after the draft is complete. Expiring contracts will also end on draft day (although it sounds like the V2 draft is being postponed to focus on V3).



Last year the 1st game of the Finals was on May 29th - so we should know the entire draft order except for 30 and 31. We can do a coin toss (or use the team with the better reg season record) since there's not a huge difference in value between those picks. If your team made it to the finals, I would consider it a success regardless of the outcome, so I doubt either outcome in the SCF would lead to massive changes. Maybe I just have very low standards as a Blues fan

Yeah, it's not just about the draft order. It's no big deal, it might just be a bit better to know how your team does before the draft. It doesn't seem like much of a difference, but there's a pretty big difference between losing in the final and winning the cup.
Also, lol, I now fixed it before posting this, but wow, it tried to spell-correct 'winning' (or something i may have typed wrong) to Winnipeg. I guess this is a sign of the future: "Winnipeg the cup."
Wow, maybe a Canadian team is winning the cup for the first time in 25 years ... lol, maybe that's our solution

But really, i'm just suggesting that, for example, what if you want to keep your team the same if you win the cup, but you want to add to your roster if you lose in the final for example, right?

So V2 is just done? I'm still confused.

My understanding is that the draft will now take place AFTER we all have our new teams for v3. So after June 1 now and each team will be making their picks based on the draft picks held by their new club.
Which I think means your current v2 teams picks will NOT be used when the draft is held.
The order will remain the same as selected by the lottery held in our game, but we will be using our new teams picks.

That is only how I understand things. This does not at all mean I am 100% correct.
Just offering what I believe has been discussed.

In terms of picking teams for v3 - fans of each team will get first dibs, correct? Just so we can get as many GMs in their most knowledgeable position, instead of having someone who doesn't know exactly what they're doing, simply because they've been here longer

This is correct as far as I understand it from the initial conversations.
If there is more than one GM requesting the same team other factors will be used to determine who has higher standing to get that team.
