Description
My 32: Blue Jackets:

I have not really watched or know much about CBJ. I know that they have a lot of young talent in their lineup and pipeline, and that they have a pretty mid D-core.

I think a Laine trade should happen, but I do not think they will get the haul that a 40 goal Laine would get. I think Chicago is a team I could see offering for Laine. They have cap space, and given Laine's contract has only 2 years left, if this does not work out, it is not such a burden on Chicago's LT plan. If he does workout, then Columbus gets the right compensation, or close to it for Laine. It is hard to predict what Chicago would trade, but I highly doubt they would want to trade a 1st round pick of any kind in the next few years.

I think this is another development year in CBJ. But they really need to find a coach that can help the teams talent transcend itself into a contender eventually. I do like Kent Johnson in this teams top 6, he needs to be able to just play hockey and play offence right now. He needs every opportunity, and he could shine. Fantilli seems to be great, hopefully he recovers well and takes another step to being that 1C.

This draft is interesting, but I do not see their 4th overall pick playing in the NHL next year. It is probably gonna be one of Demidov, Lindstrom, or Silayev as the pick.

Détails additionnels:
Conditions: 2026 3rd round pick (CHI) will turn into a 2026 2nd round pick of either Chicago, NYI, or TOR's pick (CBJ will elect to chose which pick it is) IF Laine scores at least 30 goals in each of the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 regular season.
CHI
  1. Laine, Patrik
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2025 (CBJ)
Détails additionnels:
2025 4th round pick (CBJ) will become a 2025 3rd round pick (CBJ) if Laine scores 30 goals in the 2024-2025 regular season. This is to compensate CHI for taking Laine's contract. Does not need to be such a high pick given his cap hit and his production and GP over the last few years, no guarantee he pans out. But, if he reaches these conditions, the pick will change.

Johnson isn’t a throw in on a laine trade.
He needs to take a step forward and become stronger but he should be a top line player if he hits his potential which he does have a good chance of doing if he does get stronger

Kent Johnson is worth significantly more than that

CBJ isn't using Johnson to help move out Laine. Hawks might have interest in Laine, but likely don't pay more than a 2nd and a 4th for him at most.

Modifié mar. à 12 h 56. Raison: Removed Johnson from the trade
Marchenko gets significantly more, and Brindley starts the season in the AHL (and is probably a winger at the NHL level), but the rest isn't bad at all. I don't see Columbus signing multiple depth forwards with such a crowded forward core as-is.

With Johnson removed, that's a reasonable Laine offer.

No idea why he was in the deal I made a mistake, should have just been Laine. Changed it now

Using Johnson to move Laine is like Montreal using Slaf to move Anderson. Just...why? That's not what a rebuilding team would do, ever.

Now I know gudbranson will kill him when he arrives on day one of training camp but I don’t hate brining in cousins. We need a rat and that could be a cheap one to get. (But I agree too many depth forwards as is)

Hawks decline. They wouldn't give up their own '25 2nd in a Laine deal. It would be the Dallas '25 2nd.
