The way I see it Reichel and the 1st round pick would be for Hronek, so that means in this scenario the Canucks are dumping Mikheyev and his 2 x $4.75m on the Hawks for free which doesn’t work for me.

Puckpedia estimates the cost of dumping the remainder of Mikheyev’s contract at the 21st pick of the 1st round, so it seems to me a fairer trade would be:

To Vancouver - Reichel

To Chicago - Hronek and Mikheyev

Vancouver would be dumb to do that though.

Perhaps, it would depend on what their bigger picture is. This trade would free up over $9m for them to bring in someone like Guentzel or maybe Teravainen and a lower priced d-man…

In any case I’m not onboard with bringing in and signing Heineken (crazy autocorrect but I’ll leave it… Hronek) to a big money deal considering the pieces we have. I would rather have the compensation from Vancouver for Mikheyev

Seems unlikely that eight UFAs all accept the exact dollar amount that happens to fit them under VAN's cap. Cmon.
