If you want him (particularly if you want us to retain any $$$ on his deal), your offer starts with one of Bystedt, Musty, Edstrom, or the Sharks' 2025 1st. RFA rights on Bordeleau and a mid-round pick aren't close.

Put the pipe down. No chance any of those get moved for a guy who can’t stay on the ice l.

I disagree as a jackets fan. Don’t see laine having that much value without retention. Half retention he probably has a good amount of value though

My response (as a fellow Jackets fan) was premised upon the CBJ retaining, which they probably will wind up doing.

I could also see waddell just dumping him and using that money to go after Necas, lindholm, or Guentzel

If they do that with Necas, they need to trade Laine for his rights. Otherwise, the RFA price would be too high.

1/2 retained, I think the Blue Jackets will be lucky to get a late 1st.

I don't think I'd want to abandon any of our young guys for an injury prone guy who's about to be on his 3rd team now. Sharks do need someone who can score like that, but I just don't think this is the player you'd want to pay for. It would be exciting but there's a lot of risk with a move like that.

Which is why your initial offer without any retention carried about that much value? Just not seeing the consistency here.

What? The Sharks don’t need retention which is why their offer is lower. A team that needs retention would obviously have to pay more (late 1st).

He played 18 games last year, has an $8.7M a year cap hit for 2 more years, spent most of last year in the players assistance program, and a significant injury history. You can’t think that player has good trade value.

He’s also been at a PPG when healthy with the jackets and is one of the best goal scorers in the league. There’s not much risk if he’s only making 4 million but the upside is huge

“When healthy” is very important when talking Laine. He always hurt.

“One of the best goal scorers in the league”? The last time he hit 30 was 2018-2019.

He's in league assistance because he was struggling with depression due to his father's death. And he got hurt this year by a cheap shot in the first week. Other than that... sure.

still isnt pulling value with a 8.7 m cap hit, cant stay healthy, and little to no 2 way play.
