We'll give you the Pittsburgh 2024 third for Kakko and take the 2025 first for Vatrano. We have an excess of left-handed defensemen already so we don't need Jones and we don't want Chytil. We'll also take Trouba off your hands for another third so that you can keep the two draft picks and save yourself Petry's cap hit. You'd end up with Vatrano and one first, two thirds, two fourths, Chytil and Jones better and only miss out on Zegras and Petry.

I'd 100% take that trade for Detroit. But, Petry has a full NMC and waived it to come home to Detroit. We are stuck with him for one more year, unfortunately.

The only thing that would make this trade better for the Wings is if it were Holl instead of Petry...

Basically, we'd be massively upgrading the 2nd pair right-handed defenseman for an extra $3.65M (Petry) or $2.6M (Holl), while also adding two mid round picks. No brainer.

Fellow Detroit fan my guy. Petry was serviceable last season but we obviously would like to upgrade at that position. However not at the expense of Jacob Trouba's cap hit for an extra season. We don't need to pay 6m for 2 years for a guy who doesn't improve us greatly in the long term. We are moving into cap crunch territory and he doesn't provide enough of what we need for 6 million. On top of him being brainless. Sure 2 4ths would be nice but we can live without them. I just don't like Trouba and I'd much rather stick with Petry for another season so when we're out from under his contract, we can find someone more suitable for the bottom 4

Like him or hate him, Trouba is still a very effective defenseman. He would be a great fit on the Wings 2nd pair behind Seider for the next 2 seasons. A hard-nosed defensive defenseman that puts up 25-35 points is well worth $6M in my opinion. Only $3.65M more than Petry. Sure, it's an extra year, but there will be other contracts coming off the books in that time anyway.

It's an easy accept. But again, it's not doable. Petry isn't waiving to go anywhere. I'm also in the same boat of being very interested in adding Trouba to the 2nd pair if NY is retaining, and the price is reasonable.

Even if it’s not Petry I really think Detroit makes sense for Trouba if NYR eat 25% or attach picks. 2 years at $6 million isn’t bad and he’s from the area so they shouldn’t be on his no trade list.

Yep. Would require retention for Detroit to be interested, but I've traded for him with 2.5 mil retained in a few mocks with picks going back NYR way.
