So trying to find the off the radar big moves that just might happen....most likley not, but just might
But first, I'm going to make the moves I think the Canes will/need to make to get the foundational roster in tact
KK is a cap dump, anyone who doesn't think so must be related to him.
I feel good Canes can sign Guentzel
Signing Jarvis is a must...not only is he a budding star, he's my son's favorite player
I also think the Canes resign Skjei, too valuable and after next year if they can let Orlov leave if necessary
I'm going to sign Niki just because I want it to happen...but if it doesn't, I see the Canes re-signing Chatty for $2m or finding a FA around that price.
So that leaves $11m, 4 forward spots to fill...and not going the FA route anymore, all trades.
I'd love to trade Kuzy but think it will be hard to find a taker, so leaving him for now.
Need to trade Anderson and find a better solution at G, either someone who can raise their game come playoff time, or a cheaper backup to Kot...hope he grows into the job and if not, find someone at the deadline.
In looking through the teams, the Jets and Wild stood out as teams that "need to do something", so I'm going with the Wild for Necas, as they desperately need to prove to Kaprizov that they are going to win now.
but where it gets interesting is a flip flop of goalies, I'm going all in on Kot and Fleury can be the ultimate mentor, who also can elevate his game every once in a while.....and is cheaper than Anderson. I'm adding a 2rd pick from Min
So now all I have is picks and prospects and I need more scoring. The Islanders are a team that feels stuck. Not much cap space, same roster that can't get over the hump, I'm going to give them more cap space, picks and prospects....for Brock Nelson who is ready to win now with the Canes.
I could see a world where CHI has interest in a heavily discounted KK, for like a late round pick, but probably not a 3rd. But, realistically, I think CHI would want to be compensated for taking on his contract.
Hawks might have interest in KK as a 2C option since the buyout is very manageable. But don't see the Hawks paying anything for him. At best, it's a future considerations type trade, or Carolina adds some sort of Sweetner.
I also remain completely unconvinced that Necas, or any Necas style player, is something Guerin even wants on his roster
Agreed. You can argue he would be a short-term upgrade, but not someone I would want to see be the return on a Rossi trade. If that's what you're getting back, just keep Rossi and if you really hate having someone his size as your 2c, try him on the wing.
Cap dumps don’t get third round picks back. It’s probably a late pick or FC for KK in a deal like this.
Overpay and poor use of assets for Nelson - can find better options for top 6 scoring.
Fleury doesn’t improve goaltending - either maintain with Freddy as backup and Kooch getting the net or make an actual upgrade. MIN probably can’t make Necas work without additional moves and I doubt Guerin would target him in the first place.
I like Skjei and wouldn’t be surprised if he came back but also seems like the right side is where the focus needs to be. Need to find a top 4 RHD or bring Pesce back and find a stop gap 3LD until Nikishin comes over.
