Why does everyone think the Hawks will pay to take on their bad contracts? Delusional.

Is there some time travelling component here? Free agency doesn’t open until July 1 but somehow we have already signed and traded Barbashev by June 28?

Couldn’t agree more. Can’t imagine him putting on a Hawks sweater since he declined to come because Jimmy was let go and now with Jimmy passing away would probably just lower the chances of him coming to Chicago. Also the hawks wouldn’t bring on a retained player as this would cost more in a trade and obviously the hawks are trying to het the floor.

Who to target at the draft
I would not be surprised if we came out of this draft with Bedard, Moore/ Perreault, and Cristall. I think they will end up picking 3 times in the first round.

I wouldn't trade an A prospect for a B+ prospect and 2MM in cap. Maybe you would. That’s cool. Difference in opinion.</div></div>
It’s actually 0.833M then 1.833 for the next three years, but I get your point. You likely value their draft capital more than they currently do.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>The difference in points for Pit 1st to Boston 1st is about 150 points. Adding in NY 2nd would make the difference 100 points. That is equivalent to 38th overall. Granlund has a cheap buyout so there isn't a chance Pit trades (what is essentially) a high 2nd to get rid of him.</div></div>
Although I agree that Granlund’s buyout isn’t terrible, Dubas and the Penguins want to keep this team competitive for the next 4 years while they still have their core. This becomes more difficult when you are carrying an additional 2M in cap hit in each of those years. I believe they value that cap space more than they do their current draft capital.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>You ever heard of a re-tool? They aren’t holding a fire sale, but they aren’t throwing away futures either. Canucks already traded away a first round pick to acquire a 25 year old top 4 RHD. Not trading the other one unless we get a similar value player. Canucks have a shallow prospect pool. The GM has made it very clear that they are looking forward to drafting at 11. Even suggests they might trade up.
Allvin traded Hamonic for a 3rd. Hamonic was supposed to be a 3 mil cap dump but he flipped him for value. Even though Dermott didn’t pan out, the Canucks won because they cleared cap space
Canucks traded a 2nd to get rid of Dickinson so they could acquire Ethan Bear for a 5th round pick. Since then, Bear has been our 2nd best defence man so I’d say that trade worked well for us. It isn’t his fault that the previous GM left him with little to work with
As for the Horvat trade, it was an excellent move. Horvat was unwilling to tell-sign, so Allvin sold high on him and got a good return. He got a good centre prospect, a young middle 6 winger (Beauvillier outproduced Horvat after the grade), and a first round pick which they traded for a very good top 4 RHD. They turned an expiring UFA into their top prospect, middle 6 winger, and their top pairing RHD. Pretty good in a re-tool perspective. How is this no direction? It is abundantly clear what the direction is right now. The canucks have added useful players to the lineup for cheap. Kuzmenko and Mikheyev are crucial parts to the team and they signed them for free. Turned an expiring UFA into potential core pieces. What do you not get?</div></div>
I agree that they did well in the Horvat trade. I don’t agree that they should have used the pick to trade for Hronek. At the end of the day, the Canucks have been stuck in no man’s land the last two years not making the playoffs but not drafting high either. They don’t have very much draft capital and have a couple strong draft classes coming up. They don’t have any cap space to improve the team either. Re-tools don’t work and it’s terrible timing, but if that’s the direction they want to take it makes more sense to move down 8 spots and potentially get another pick in that trade to move a couple bad contracts. That would free up the money so that they could go and pick up that RHD on free agency or via trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>He's done in Seattle, 0% chance he goes back. If anything, he plays in the AHL, but keeping in Seattle will stunt his growth as he's dominating at that level.</div></div>
Since he is still CHL eligible, he won’t be able to play in the AHL. It’s either Chicago or Seattle. The reason I don’t think it will stunt his growth is because he is only 18 still and if he comes back he likely takes the C and takes on a bigger leadership role with the team. I think throwing him in full time in Chicago next year might not be the best for his development. From what I’ve heard from Seattles camp they are expecting him back but we will see! Definitely looking forward to him eventually making it up to Chicago though!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>This makes no sense. There has been a pretty clear direction . They are not rebuilding, but they aren’t going to trade their only first round pick unless it’s for a U25 C or RHD. Patrik Allvin has made lots of good moves. They are also not over the cap. Yet another uneducated take. Perhaps do some research. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about</div></div>
Haha even the way you phrase the state of the team makes no sense. Not rebuilding but not willing to move a pick? What are they doing then? What I am proposing doesn’t take away a pick, they are sliding down 8 spots to get rid of some brutal contracts.
Since coming in, Allvin has swapped 3rds and some how come out with a worse dman, traded away a 2nd round pick to get rid of Dickinson, gotten a 1st round pick for their captain and then turned around and traded that pick for second/ third pair dman. If that doesn’t scream no direction and absolutely running that franchise into the ground you might need to give your head a shake.

TOR trade is awful and CHI declines, we are not sending back our 2nd round pick and taking that large of a cap dump only to move up like 7 spots. The late 1st and early 2nd will be relatively the same, as far as caliber of player.
I believe it is possible VAN and CHI could figure out something involving CHI getting that VAN 1st, but that isn't it. VAN declines.</div></div>
Great points. I meant to add in the NYR 2nd instead of Chicagos. I agree it may also take Myers being added to that deal to move up to that spot.
