Three-way trade, if Fowler is up for it. We are sending a 2nd; a good young forward, Graeme Clarke, a right-handed center and RW, who has lead AHL in 5v5 scoring over last two seasons; and a dman, Daniil Misyul, who profiles as 6/7 dman. Decent puck skills, plays aggressive, physical game. The 4th is for Max Jones.
Vegas gets higher pick in trade, moving up from #19 to #14; Also, without any picks in rounds 2-5, they add a 3rd rounder here (pick value equivalent of #37 overall pick); they two years of Cam Fowler at same price as McNabb; and clear $5m in Barbashevs salary.
Calgary gets a hard-hitting Russian RHD for down the road. Barabosha is a full-timer as 20-year old for CSKA in KHL, and has recently signed extension…so should step right into lineup as 23-year old. Daws is a young goalie, now playing for Canada at world championships and is waiver exempt. They also move up from #41 all the way to #19, and slides late 2nd in 3rd (in pick values, the net cost of the pick swaps is about equal to a late 1st round pick). So the net price for Markstrom is Barabosha, Daws, and pick exchange equal to #28 pick.
I don’t think the Ducks move Fowler and I can’t see Fowler waiving his NTC with 1,000 games on the horizon. He’ll probably stay a Duck the rest of his career.
Yeah Holtz is not worth that at all. The Dach trade was seen as an overpay to begin with and Dach had shown at least one very good postseason at the NHL level that he had promise
Barbashev is WAY overpaid for his regular season production, in hopes that he'd have more 2023/2018 playoff performances, but he was invisible in these playoffs.

Dach played on a line with two Hall of Famers, no?
Holtz has shown more than Dach, over longer stretch of games, with little power play, with lesser linemates.
Barbashev got paid his market value at 5 mill AAV.
I don’t think what he did this past year was enough to meaningfully increase it.
In general I am very low on trade values of guys who were acquired as UFAs at market value, have not done anything to increase their value meaningfully, and where similar caliber players can be found in UFA again for free.

Are there any free agents on par? Not an exciting crop this year.
Fitzy overpays for playoff experience…and has been linked to Barbashev twice before in past.

Bertuzzi comes to mind, as does Stephenson
I don't see anything special about Barbashev that makes him worth a 1st, or even a 2nd tbh. He's a good player, and he's worth the 5 million he's making, but not much more than that.
Also I have this take for most recently signed UFAs.
I never want to be the guy to buy years 30,31,32 after some other team got years 27,28,29 for free as a UFA.
Unless the level of play has meaningfully improved, which I don't see at all from Barbashev.

We would be buying years 28-31
I'd take him over Bertuzzi at $5.5m x 5 years
Stephenson brings a different style game.
There aren't many guys who can play a heavier skill game and give 40-50 points to boot.
Ideally we acquire them when they are 20-30 pt guys...and we catch the upswing

I mean Holtz has been tried with just about everyone. His most common linemates were hughes/Haula and Mercer/Haula
Dach was playing with Kane/Caggiula and Kane/Cat in those playoffs. In his first regular season he played mostly with Strome and Cat. Kane was his 4th most frequent line.
Again, I honestly think Dach's value was heavily based on that first playoff appearance he had. He looked amazing right out the gate and then never really looked as good after his injury.

MTL overpayed in hopes to get that player
5v5
Dach played mostly with DeBrincat (35%), Kane (27%), Kurashev (27%), Hagel (25%)
Holtz played mostly with Haula (28%), Mercer (25%), Tierney (20%), Lazar (18%)
I don't know what people would put too much stock into Dach in 2020 playoffs...one goal and one secondary assist in five games doesn't seem to be eye-popping numbers. But I don't remember the series.
