If Petry doesn't wave then he's going on LTIR for a year. I'm sure there is an injury or 2 that would cause that
Can't just put a player on LTIR. He was healthy to end the season, no reason to expect he's not healthy to start the next. With his trade protection, he is basically impossible to move. It's very easy to block a trade to any team that might be somewhat interested and the rest won't be interested in him. Don't see any team really wanting him without a sweetener attached and this teams are easy to list on his no trade clause.

Here's one. WTF??? Care to explain or just gonna poo poo everything without explanation?
I'll explain, just cause you said poo poo.
Minnesota has less than 6M in cap space. They can't afford to take on Holl and Husso. They need that extra cap to fill out the rest of the roster. You also gave them zero incentive to take those two contracts. Husso hasn't been great, he doesn't hold any value. Holl only played 38 games and was scratched for the rest, at 3.4M he holds even less value. Going to cost assets to move him but that's not worth it. A buyout of Holl only costs 1.1M against the cap for 4 years, it's probably the most likely scenario. Not only did you not give Minnesota incentive to take those contracts, didn't really send them value for Gus either. Soda is a very intriguing prospect but he is playing fourth line minutes in Grand Rapids as his skating is not great. Also, we should take our time with him, he could be nothing or he could be a difference maker in the future. He's one of those guys you hold onto in case he develops into Tage 2.0 or something.
Be lucky to get a depth pick for Fabbri, he's good when he's healthy but he can't stay healthy. At least once he recovered from his preseason injury, he played the rest of the season. Also put up good numbers with fourth line minutes. His salary is more than his cap hit, which can be a negative factor for rebuilding teams in smaller markets like San Jose or Anaheim.
Why are we retaining on Copp and trading Maatta and Walman for nothing? Copp isn't getting moved. Even though most fans don't like him, he gets all the defensive assignments. He started in the D-zone 60% of the time, compared to almost 50+% in the O-zone with Winnipeg and New York. He's our second best at face-offs. He's also a good leader. He will be needed to help mentor Kasper and Danielson. Also that line of him, Ras and Fischer was very tough to play against. Hate him or love him, we still need him.
Maatta is a solid third pairing option for many teams. Not saying he gets a big return but a late pick probably. He should be moved, he would be the easiest.
Walman is our top pairing defenseman with Seider. I know he was scratched at the end of the season after he was injured, not sure what that was all about but I don't see us moving him for nothing.
Chiarot should not be playing top pair, maybe second pair but ideally Edvinsson gets that spot and Chiarot goes third pair.
I don't see us having interest in bringing Smith back.
Montour would be cool but he likely gets more term from a team. It's the last big contract he will sign, he will want to maximize term and salary. He can also sign for 6.5M in Florida and get the same money after taxes, just a fun fact. I think they keep him. Roy would be a logical target for that spot, Michigan native, team can't afford to sign him.
Marchessault would also be cool but I doubt we can actually afford him.
I like Perron sticking around but he should only get a one year deal, he's declining at a decent rate now.
Don't mind the Nosek signing, I would target other players instead of him but that's minor details.
The Bertuzzi ship has sailed. Yzerman didn't want to commit to him long term and that's why he got moved. I doubt he wants to come back, especially when he could get the same money from Toronto and be on a contender.
Enjoy the read.
