Description
with the recent news of val i could see the avs looking to ship him. 1 for 1 for ehlers could be a good replacement. the last 3 seasons ehlers has 154 in 189 games playing his first 82 game season since 2018. downsides in ehlers is hes injury prone and on his last year. val has 127 points in 167 games. val has never played a 82 game season highest being 79 twice. they have pretty similar point numbers. winnipeg wins this based off length of contract and value. avs win because they get the drama out the room and bring in a new face in a contract year who could resign. winnipeg loses this if more stuff comes out about val and hes terminated. avs lose this if ehlers is either hurt or hits the market. this is a very "what if" trade

When you trade your current high end winger in his prime straight up for a guy whose career may be in jeopardy because he can't get clean...

Obviously Winnipeg would have zero interest in that.

Plus, Val likely can't be moved since he's suspended without pay for 6 months.

Where is the incentive for Winnipeg to even consider this trade? Val May be a considered similar talent to Ehlers, But one them of Has an unsolved drug problem and a six-year contract at $6 million a year. Colorado is going to have to sweeten the pot for anyone to think about taking on that contract for them.

i dont see ehlers resigning. so your getting a very injury prone player or someone who has a drug problem for 6 years. im rolling the dice on him. look at kuz. went in the nhlpa system 4 months ago and is now a driving for the canes. found a player at their lowest and got good value. both are russian and someone val could use to help him with something like this. val does have full nmc.

Then you trade him for someone who will play for the Jets...

6x6 is a very good deal. i bet they could terminate it with no cap penalty. val did have 9 goals this playoffs. my comparison is kuz.

Nichushkin literally just came out of player assistance two months ago and has already relapsed...

This is not comparable to Kuzy lol. This reads more like Jakub Vrana, who Detroit had to retain 50% on just to get a 7th round pick back.

I don’t think Colorado has grounds to terminate his contract. I think they’re stuck with him. They would have to prove a material breach of contract for entering the player assistance program more than once, which would probably be tough.

avs aren't going to trade him. if they decide to part ways (and they likely will), he'll be bought out. he's lost his value at this point. no team is going to be interested in signing him.

also, bad trade for the avs to make. they have better options

They 1000% are not buying him out. That puts dead cap on the books for 12 years 12, and the cap relief is not great. They would literally trade a first round pick to move him before buying him out. One thing that does happen and I could see happening maybe is he asks for the contract to be terminated and he goes back to Russia.
