NJ DEVILS SUMMER SIGNINGS

Description
•NJ clears off the 6M AAV Palat Deal from their books, which was absolutely awful since Day1.

•Grier unites Holtz/Eklund tandum for his SJ Sharks- a duo that dominated prior to both guys going Pro.
-Holtz has 1 ELC yr. remaining, so financially the deal is a wash.
•It is the following years that this trade gets tricky.
-Palat is barely worth $3.5M let alone $6M.
-Still, SJ may have easily landed an annual 30G sniper in Holtz, for 3yrs. of $2.5-3M more than Palat's worth, yet it will be during all rebuild years.
-For those reasons, SJ paid a small fee to NJ.
•This is clearly a trade NJ iniates, even though, it's a deal both Teams benefit.
-SJ gets the better bargain, & pay a 2nd rounder + an upgraded 5th Rd.

**P.S. to those who say SJ should pay more.... remember it's not like NJ is not doing nothing with the 6M from Palat + almost 1M from Holtz, then whatever he would cost next year on his extension. In a Cap League, a Money Matters, so The Devils gaining a nice chunk of change, as well as, a roster spot to alot that cap to a player who actually is deserving of the money Palat was getting paid will be a HUGE upgrade to NJ's lineup.

I don’t think NJD considers either move. Marino to Gudas wouldn’t improve the blueline. And Devils aren’t dumping Palat. And if money is so right, why are we paying Dakota Joshua $3.7m or Rico $5m?. Just skip those, and keep Holtz and Palat.

▪︎NHL Roster Reserve's:
•Kurt McDert- Added, due to Devil's GM saying he wants to extend McDermot.
•Nolan Foote -Fitz was big on him & so was I, pre-season injury just messed him up big time.
•Tatar- I almost removed him, but for a 1yr. veteran signing who shouldn't play too much it will be good for some of the younger guys who likes Tatar + Nemec.

▪︎(Non-Roster Extra's, Starting w/Utica)
•Chris Tierney
•Nick Desimone

▪︎(Black Aces aka 1st in line NHL Prospects)
•Santeri Hatakk
•Graeme Clarke
•Seamus Casey

Everyone wants to make big changes for the sake of making changes.

Fix the unplayable 4th line that was after McLeod left
Improve the goaltending (potentially already done with Allen and Kahkonen massive upgrade on vitek)

Palat's deal is so horrible & I have a feeling Fitz doesn't plan to keep Holtz that if he can unload Palat & actually gain a 2nd round pick verse giving up a 1st rounder because he gives SJ Holtz w/1yr. of his ELC left still, I think he does it because of what I said, Palat is holding a roster spot & 6M for 3 more yrs.

-8Gs/23pts last yr. & -11Gs/31pts this yr.
•He rapidly declined in NJ, point blank period facto!

Henrique has put up at least 20Gs/½ppg EVERY season AND I did a 2yr deal, so he'd be gone 1 yr. before Palat, but w/ legit twice the production & 2M available to sign someone else, plus next year whatever Holtz would have been extended for would NOW be free to use to extend Luke & then Nemec.

Ruff is trash & he made Fitz hate Holtz just like he made Fitz trade Sharangovich. The day Sharangovich waa traded I wrote in full detail how:
¹NJ will not extwnd Toffoli
²Sharangovoch will put up like 30 goals & as many or close as many as Toffoli & close to same pts.
³He will sign a 2yr. Bridge deal w/CGY
⁴CGY will then sign him longer & end up w/ an elite sniper for almost a decade while NJ paid them for him so we can have a couple months of Toffoli
⁵How it was all because Ruff NEVER played him ONCE on the PP & after his 24G first full** season Ruff bumped him to bottom 6 mins, scratched him a bunch of games & scratched him 9 of 12 playoff games, because of no reason as he was a good 200ft player getting PK time & Ruff was quoted in interviews equally saying how amazing Sharangovich shot waa & how NJ needs a Top scorer for Jacks wing, as he played Rango on the 4th line.... so glad Ruff is gone.

Yeah, I like Holtz, but minds well make the best of the situation that is.

Palat was hired for more than his point production. It’s my understanding that Fitzy is fully happy with him…and he is universally liked by teammates, coaches. After two years, replacing a popular veteran with a stranger because he may put up 10 more points over an 82-game schedule…seems silly.

His offensive ceiling is still pretty high…has a few wrinkles in his game to iron (mostly with puck protection), so he pretty much lived in Lindy’s doghouse.

My guess is that his career ends up a little like Jason Zucker, more or less. So maybe not a top-line 35g guy, but 2nd line 25g guy.

The Devils fanbase selects a scapegoat every season to blame their misery on basically.. 2 seasons ago it was Pavel Zacha, last season it was Damon Severson despite a franchise best year, this season it was Alex Holtz. Holtz had 2 statistically great seasons in the AHL developing, looked much faster and more determined on the puck in his rookie year and scored almost 20 goals and 40 points in very limited playing time. Everybody just likes to whine and he’s not developing fast enough for them… he definitely makes a boneheaded play here and there but so does every other player. I’m still mildly confident he can be an effective second line player given a coach that gets the right stuff out of him

Normally I'd say the Sharks shouldn't give up any picks earlier than 4th round, but Holtz is worth it. Sharks should take that deal.

I have to ask, why do people bother including trades where a team moves up a few spots in the 5th round (I've seen similar things in the 7th round). If it were happening on the draft floor it makes sense if there's a guy who they're interested in who they expected to go earlier who is falling to that spot, but otherwise there's almost no change in value between pick 131 and pick 139.
