Keeping Lindholm

Description
"Show-me" deals for Lindholm and Hronek.

A great year for Garland, but I'd still rather be spending that 3rd line money on a centre.

Not the ideal D for Tocchet's liking in the short term, but can evolve back into one when Willander and D-Petey are NHL ready.

Overall, probably not a line-up that will repeat as division leaders, but still one that should get comfortably into the playoffs.

No interest at all in paying for Mikheyev, no matter the retention

Why on earth would Lindholm take a show me deal with a team where he isn’t likely be a top 6 center? If he does it, it will be with the distinct desire to get paid in the future and he will pick a team where he can play with top line talent

Lines aren't set in stone, man. If he shows that his offensive game is back, he could get a lot of time playing on a line with Petey and Guentzel.

Guentzel / Petey / Lindholm
Podz / Miller / Boeser
Joshua / Suter / Lekkerimaki
PDG / Aman / Hoglander

Better?

Are you sure about that? Yeah, he's got hands of stone, but he's a good two-way player with speed and size. The Devils have offense, Can they play an effective two-way game? You'd think guys like Mikheyev would be just what they're looking for, beyond goaltending.

Is that the likely scenario with Tocchet? He willing to bet his future earnings on it?

Not for the price Mikheyev costs. I'd rather go get Trenin. They don't need two way 3rd line guys, they need tougher and cheaper 4th liners

If anything, the specifically need natural centers, not wings passing as centers

Hawks decline. Poolman serves no purpose for Chicago. They'll be comfortably above the cap floor with guys who can actually play.

Foegele will be available in UFA and is a better fit for NJD

Toc will put guys where he thinks they are most effective. He can still use Lindholm as a centre in the face-off circle and when he wants certain match-ups. The plan was to have him playing with Petey when they acquired him.

All Lindholm has to do is put up Horvat numbers and he gets his $8.5M ask. Pretty sure he can 70 points on that roster, if he is in fact a 70 point player.

That's not the point of that deal for them. They're rebuilding, they get a pretty good goaltending prospect by weaponizing their LTIR.

Hawks have two goalie prospects signed and playing in the AHL, and two more draft picks playing in the NCAA. Adding a 5th goalie prospect isn't getting this done.

"Pretty good" goaltender prospect, that isn't that good, and CHI doesn't need. CHI fans are well aware that they are rebuilding. But they made public statements recently that essentially said "The teardown and tanking phase is over. It's time to start taking steps and caring about winning games." They aren't handing out cap space and cap flexibility for what pretty much amounts to nothing, seeing as you have CHI sending a 7th round pick back to VAN.

I'd be interested in the pending free agents, Truscott and Malone, before I would be interested in Kosky.

Canucks aren’t giving away Garland

Lindholm and Hronek likely sign longer term deals

Give Joshua a bit less money. Would love to keep him but not at 4M

There are a few teams with better long term cap flexibility with a more defined opportunity that he can join if he’s taking that risk.

For example, he’d play in between Pasfa and Zacha in Boston. They have the cap position to sign him long term to that contract and less risk of him ending up on the third line and pulling a Klingenberg.
