Sometimes, the pleasure of saying "I told you so" isn't worth the pain of getting there.
Acquiring DuBois never made sense to me because there was no hole between two top-6 forwards that needed filling. As a result, DuBois has played with youngsters on his wings who may never develop into top-6 personnel, and Los Angeles doesn't have the cap space to re-sign Viktor Arvidsson (who is the only King who has made DuBois look tenable) and add a LW so that DuBois becomes a productive member of society. So unless Alex Turcotte and Alex LaFerriere (or maybe Akil Thomas) both have the kind of breakthrough year that Quint Byfield had this past season, the situation isn't going to improve.
You might get lucky
A team like in a bad situation might consider
Lets say Dubois for Huberdeau with RS to match
So both would have 7 years x 8.5 on both sides
Huberdeau's more productive in a down year is only 8 pts behind PLD best year
Kadri is the type to Humble a guy like PLD or make him waive his NMC more liberally to leave if need be
Huberdeau in LAK is actually kinda Scary as Kopitar is that Elite Center he's used to playing with
PLD is a Power Center at a time CGY could use it and opens up more room on Wing for their Youth to Grow.
It creates more room for Kadri to Flex with Backlund and PLD to take bulk faceoffs it allows Kadri more OZ time
That said its still just exchanging big ass contracts lol
