Flyers have no need to trade a pick for 1 year of Peterson's salary which is buried.

Any TB fan who thinks TB should use draft picks to dump Sheary instead of buy him out is a moron. As I sharks fan I see you're trying to get over. That's God Awful for TB. Seriously Julien Brisebois would have to be suffering massive cognitive decline.

Kuznetzov would probably be traded to be bought out, after July 1st when the signing bonus is paid so it is only 4 million in real dollars over 2 years. Marleau @ 6 million was a first, Bailey at 5 million was a second, so Kuznetsov at 4 could be a third?

? what would be wrong with spending picks for cap space back? Obivously the quality/quantity of picks would have to make sense but I would rather have the cap space than picks. Also buying him out should not be the option, sending him to the minors would only be 850k for the duration of his contract vs buying him out would be $583,333 the first year, $1,083,333 the 2nd year and $583,333k the 3rd and 4th years.

583,333 is nothing next year cap should be around 91-92 million the following year so the additional 500 k to keep the limited amount of futures assets to trade for younger players or keep is more important.

TB got a conditional 4th that either 2 or 3 drafts away to retain $1,456,250 so wouldn't keeping that three be a good investment.

500k could mean the difference between signing a big target vs medium target in FA or possibly millions of dollars in accrued cap by the TDL

yes, I would preferably only want to trade a 4th to get rid of the sheary contract but it also depends on the situation. If we hit FA and we need the extra 500k instead of buying out sheary on signing a decent player then it might be worth parting with a 3rd

A 3rd and RFA rights to Alnefelt think it's really bad asset management if we loose someone over 500k on a big contract oh F***ING well. Is that someone who wants to win or get every dollar they can. Not bad mouthing them if they're goal to make as much money as possible. (Why this iteration of Leafs won't win 💩.)

the leafs problem is having 40+ mil locked into 4 players not worth 40+ mil. I was talking about like if we lose duclair offering him 4 vs 4.5 or something similar, I think in those scenarios it would cost a 3rd or more at the TDL to just reacquire the asset we could have got in FA.

Orlov isn’t going anywhere. Kuznetzov likely won’t go anywhere, although if he has to be dumped, at worst it likely costs a 3rd. KK can be bought out for cheap, if a team isn’t willing to pay for him.

That's fair, i appreciate the insight. I've seen that trade on here a bunch of times and Tampa seems like they'll have a bit of a cap crunch over the offseason but, yeah 2M is more movable and buriable than other not-so-great contracts.

Didn't realize Kotkaniemi's buyout was that cheap. Although the buyout would last like 2 million years lol. He would be the most expensive to dump of the three. Agree with a 3rd for Kuzy. Orlov isn't a negative asset player but it seems like he would be the odd one out should they choose to bring back Guentzel and Pesce and Skjei.

That's fair, just looking at things it seems like they might consider moving some dead cap out if they want to push for the playoffs next year. But it is less vital for them.

Since he's only 23 it's only 1/3 instead of 2/3 of his non-bonus salary that needs to be played (and he has no bonuses). The value of his deal varies slightly hence the differences, but you're paying 1/3 of the contract over twice the time so each year it's roughly 1/6 of his deal. If he were 26+ it would be 2/3, but the real thing that makes contracts rough is bonus heavy deals since the bonuses are paid 100% regardless of buyout.
