We're quite happy with our Gudas signing, and we have a Nation alreadin in Lesson, and we have no room for a LHD in Bahl, so this trade doesn't do anything for us at the cost of our only RHD signed for next season.

Thanks, but we pass.

ANA would definitely need to be on drugs with you to give them even a moment’s pause before declining

In all seriousness, RD is our thinnest position and Gudas is beloved here. LD is of zero interest, and Verbeek said he wants to compete for a playoff spot this year, not move our best Dman for futures

Radko Gudas is our only NHL-qualified RhD currently under contract for next season, is a physical force, and a fans', teammates' and coaches' favorite. In contrast, we have five NHL-qualified LhDs under team control for next season, so we don't need Kevin Bahl. Moreover, we don't lack for depth RWs or draft picks, so there's nothing in that package that would interest us even if the target were someone other than Gudas. No, thanks.

Need to be giving up assets that hurt to get Brady and I dont think Devils fans would really care that much about any of what's going out the door in that offer.

Pass.

This is more than the Sabres got for Eichel or the Flames got for Matthew Tkachuk.

If he wanted to make a comparable offer, it would be something like:

Ottawa 1st+Zub+Grieg+3rd for Hischier

If Ottawa views a top 10 pick as an asset that doesn’t hurt to get rid off NJD will happily take Ottawas 2024 1st off their hands

Zub is so much better than Marino and Greig currently a much more impactful 2 way game than Holtz. I would not trade Greig for Holtz . 7th is also better than 10th

Zub is older and has worse results than Marino over the last 3 years. They have virtually identical contracts.

Grieg is certainly worth less than Holtz.

And Tkachuk is worth less than Nico.

I would not trade Holtz+NJD 1st+Marino for Grieg+Marino+Ottawa1st.

Zub has much more difficult deployments and has been one of the best defensive Dmen in the league.

Sanderson-Marino would not be anywhere close to Sanderson-Zub this year .

Wrong Nico is overrated. He’s not a top 10 centre .

Tkachuk isn’t worth less.

I like Greig more than Holtz.

There’s a reason Holtz hasn’t been given free reign. He’s not a valuable player

Compared to Brady? Absolutely 10th doesnt hurt you and in a vacuum Ottawa giving up a 7th for Brady wouldnt hurt at all either.

Whatever point youre trying to make is being lost in translation...

Yeah if I was any team, I’d give up a bottom 4D, a young player that hasn’t been fitting in and 10th pick for Brady in a heart beat.

In fact I’d be celebrating

I've already wrote love letters about how Eichel forcing his way out of Buffalo while seeking a surgery that had basically never been done before is a terrible comparison so I'm not sure why youre still using it as a comparable for a Brady trade. Also mentioned that Matthew actively forced his way out of Florida as well whereas Brady is more than happy to stay. We could pretend the scenario behind this trade is he forced his way out but realistically a trade like this would be NJ coming to Staios to see if they could entice him to trade his captain.

Also if Hubie didnt fall off the face off the planet in Calgary I dont think you'd be saying that this was a better return than what went to Calgary for Matthew. Weegs looks amazing and signed long term for 6m. The 10-15 pick difference in the 1sts and the mid round picks changing hands dont make up the difference between Weegs to Marino and Huberdeau to Holtz pre-trade.

Yeah 100% . I totally agree with you about that Eichel statement. If he was healthy and not so desperate to leave and things turned bad with Buffalo, it probably would’ve cost double the package

Zub played 39.8% of his minutes against elite competition
Marino played 40%.

Marino also had a higher % of his minutes against elite competition last year, and the year before.

per PuckIQ

Zub has had 1 year of good results playing 830 minutes alongside Jake Sanderson.
Marino's most common Partner this year was Kevin Bahl.

If you want to claim Kevin Bahl and Jake Sanderson are similar quality hockey players you can go ahead and do that tho.

Nico Hischier is a better hockey player than Tkachuk at a more valuable position.

Ridley Grieg with less points and goals than Holtz in more ice time. Lower Draft pedigree and upside too.

Rentals are rentals.

You can't credit the long term contract on Weegar while pretending the Long term albatross of Huberdeau doesn't exist.

I don't weight either. Both were rental pieces. The contracts given out after are a separate discussion.

The gap between an immediate 10th overall pick and a Lottery protected pick 3 years down the line is massive.

If you want though we are happy to take Ottawas 2024 1st for a Lottery protected 2027 pick since they're basically the same in your eyes.

Marino is worth as much as Weegar was at that time.

And Holtz+Top 10 pick is more than I'd pay for a rental winger and a protected 1st 3 years down the line.

Greig is Marchand lite. Holtz can’t do anything besides shoot. Greig is a better defender too and can play centre.

And Zub played with Chabot on the top pair last year

You can let your massive bias into every single thing if you want.

Top 10 pick vs Top 10 pick
Top 4 defensive RD making 4.5 mill x 3 years vs defensive top 4 RD making 4.5 mill
2020 1st round pick winger with sub 30 points vs 2020 1st round pick winger with sub 30 points.

for

Near PPG star u25 forward vs near PPG u25 star forward

Virtually identical packages.

Yep, and Zubs results were worse alongside Chabot than Marino's alongside Graves.

And now I'm sure you'll mention help, all the while being convinced that Debrincat was better than Bratt, that Tkachuk is as good as Hischier, that Stutzle was comparable to hughes, that Giroux and Batherson were better than Yegor and Mercer, and that Pinto was better than Palat.

Somehow every struggle of any forward is because they don't have enough defense, and any struggle of any dman is because of the forwards.
