Better to just waive Marner or even better just for picks and use the 11M more wisely...Montour, Tanev and Talbot as an example...and next year when Tavares 11M is off the books go for Shesterkin or one of the good UFA goalies available

a bad expensive 6th defender, a bad expensive back up and the rights to a middling 3rd liner and all the leafs need to add to a top line 2 way 90 point player is a 1st?
wow, what a deal.
and dont forget you some how kept the defensive penalty disaster in domi and a guy who shoots the puck like his stick is made out of dried spaghetti in the playoffs in bertuzzi!

I agree with you the trade is rubbish but unless Marner somehow does somthing tomorrow night and beyond he has little value...Marchand is twice (to be kind) the player Marner is in every way at just over half the cap hit! Marner is way way overrated imho...on the flip side the guy could use a change of scenery to reinvent himself...like Hyman, Kadri, Marchment, Joashua, etc have

lol, domi literally cost the leafs 2 games this series and bertuzzi couldnt hit the floor with his hat right now and neither of them are coming off a high ankle sprain that has them skating at 70%

Marner has plenty of value and pretending otherwise is wish fullfilment. and of course marchand is cheaper, he wasnt even a 50 point player and didnt play defence when he signed his contract.
And none of these guys you mentioned re-invented themselves they just had weird development curves, except Kadri who is who he has always been he just stopped being a giant moron and getting himself suspended after doing it three playoffs in a row

High ankle sprain after he missed an open net and slipped on an invisible banana peel

Lets exclude what we all think and use the pro opinion...last night Gretzky, Ace and Biz all priased Domi and the other night PK and Mess did...what did they say about Marner?

wow, all those guys who are not remotely known for being good at hockey analysis praised domi? incredible, maybe they can explain why he took two stupid as all get out penalties in game one to put the leafs in the hole or was day dreaming about pickles or something while marchand sauntered in 6 inches away from him and scored the game winner like he was alone with all the time in the world.

Dude, if marner did what domi did on that goal, people would be picketing his house. Domi literally cost the leafs that game and all you and others wanna do is blame marner.
Lol at gretzky being good at analyzing the game, you do remember he was one of the worst coaches in history right?

Gretzky sees the game like no other, watch TBS...his analysis is amazing...yes terrible coach but thats a different game

Also I don't blame Marner...I just think he is not a difference maker in the playoffs especially, high cap hit on a team with 3 others...hey I hope the guy is the next Hyman or Kadri or etc as I said.

I do admire your loyalty though, you are a true fan!

Gretzky saw the ice as a player like no other. If he was any good at thinking the game outside of his skates he wouldn't have been a disaster on fire as a coach, he is a mediocre analyst on the best day and the very perfect example of being good at something doesn't mean you can analyze what makes someone good at it.

The hatred Marner gets when out of the past 50 games he has the highest ppg average even over Matthews. The problem with Marner is his size which does hurt a little come playoffs time when pressured.
Fact is we need both playmakers, high end scorers and net front presences to score in both regular season to make the dance then in playoffs. I hope Marner becomes more consistent in the playoffs where he doesn't go pointless in 4/5 games. That is annoying.
But a large reason for the less points is more on coaching. Every year it's the same ol song. Our 22%power play dries up over the last month and goes into the playoffs and we are lucky if it operates at an 8% clip. We have tried many different power play coaches and yet Keefe stays there. With better coaching our power play can probably operate at 15% which would equate an extra goal every 2 games. Over a 7 game series that gives Marner, Matthews and Nylander an extra 3-4 points and now our offense looks better and the players score more.
This past year so far we have Matthews playing the back end with Reilly with the puck coming off Tavares hoping to go to Marner then to Reilly or Matthews. It is very predictable. It is time to change. Throw Marner on the back with Reilly and it changes the passing lanes which can lead to different chances. Keefe refuses to alter all he did was change Jarnkrok for Bert.
Last year in Florida series Nylander was humming and what did Keefe do plant Nylander in pp2 refusing to promote him to pp1. Play your hottest player during the playoffs? Really?

Lol.

Columbus obviously accepts, but Marner and Toronto never let it get to that point. TML fans need to chill.
