Here's the problem with a full NMC.
Markstrom gets to decide who he waives for. You could end up with a Tarasenko situation where he'll only waive for one team, meaning you've got zero leverage to demand a premium return, because there's no bidding war. Add to that Calgary also won't want to retain, and you're going to end up with a real disappointing return.
Now, you can keep him if the offers are too low, but if he decides he wants to move on from Calgary, then you've got a time bomb on your hands before that Intel gets out, before you loose what little leverage you have.
And since it's a NMC not a NTC, you can't even pull a Ryan McDonaugh on him.
