With FA signings like those, I hope we sign Drai to 8 x $7.5M next summer.

And the money. $3M for someone who would be on our bottom-pair, who has a $3M salary, is too rich for an organization that has operated on an internal cap in the past.

There's at least a dozen cheaper and better options for Columbus that don't involve any assets going out, even if its re-signing Jake Bean.

penguins would take the picks, they don't want the bodies back.
To be honest I'd rather trade Jarry to a team like NJ for Bahl.

your prospect cupboard is pretty bare, so I think Soderblom would be a good asset for the Pens, and would likely make your team next year. Husso I can understand not wanting, but we would need to shed some salary to acquire Jarry.

ok fine, we'll retain 1 million. So you get Maatta for 2 million for your bottom pair, and send the Wings a 5th rounder or something? Maatta is a fine bottom pair NHL guy, hes not gonna wow anyone, but hes an NHL D all day long.

What part of this are you not getting? Columbus does not need or want him. Not for a late round pick. Not with retention. Not even for free.

And Columbus is still rebuilding, dingdong. What does throwing 3 mill at a third pair defenseman who isn't a leader or an upgrade on Provorov, Bean, or the team's top prospect outside the NHL do for a rebuilding team? Nothing. There are 30 other teams.

Are we seriously arguing about Olli Määttä of all players?

no, I guess at this point it's become an argument about how bad Columbus is

but I get it, youre not interested in improving your team lol

Olli Määttä is not an improvement to the team is what everyone in this post is trying to tell you. He's not better than Werenski. He's not better than Provorov. He's not even better than Jake Bean. And at least one of the latter two of those are likely on the block to make room for Denton Mateychuk to get some NHL minutes next season. There are plenty of ways Columbus can improve next year, but adding Olli Määttä isn't one of them.

I dont even know why we are arguing about this lol

Must be another year without the playoffs for me as a Wings fan

I just think you are "under-valuing" Maatta a bit, but I get it, youd rather play Jiricek or Mateychuk or Svozil, or a prospect making less $ than Maatta

I do think someone out there takes Maatta from us, and we likely dont need to retain, but I guess that team isnt Columbus.

And that's all I've been trying to tell you. He's not worthless, just not worth it to Columbus. Not sure why Yzerman signed him, either, tbh. No, Columbus isn't good and won't be next year either, but the roster spot being open for prospects to get their feet wet is more important right now than whatever meaningless extra win or two over the course of the season Määttä might contribute.

I don't think Soderblom has the speed to play the NHL level. Their prospect pool is better than people think. Given they don't have a lot of spaces in the roster to play them. It's different next year as opposed to this year. This year they weren't able to call up Yager or Pickering. They also didn't have the 3 prospects from the CAR trade, 2 of them at least look NHL capable that I know of.
You add in Broz and Poulin and you got 5 possible prospect forwards. So I don't really see the need on a guy who can't play with speed.
As far as Husso, I get why you need to move cap. But the penguins aren't taking on 4.75 mil in cap on a dead goalie.
That may work for you but trades have to work both ways.
Penguins don't have a goalie issue. Jarry can play next year with Blom. I imagine that's the plan. They will let Murashov play in the AHL. When they think Murashov is NHL ready they will focus on moving Jarry.
The offer has to be right to move Jarry. They don't need the cap space that bad, and they are saving 1.5 mil in cap on their goalies next year as it is.
