Both Meier and Tkachuk weren’t the captains and faces of their teams. Ottawa is literally built around Tkachuk and their biggest need is a right handed defender, if you don’t start with Nemec, don’t call.

Eichel is not better than Tkachuk and his trade would be a good comparable because he was dealt with an injury issue that the team acquiring him had to let him do his surgery choice which limited the options of teams.

Erik Karlsson isn’t a comparison because of the age difference and contract difference - San Jose had to literally retain just to move him and not a lot of teams can fit Karlsson in their cap. He also brought injury concerns and everyone knew his defence struggles.
