There was a LOT more than a 3rd round picks worth of risk in the Eichel trade, it was an outright gamble by Vegas, and Eichel wanted out, it should not be used as a comp.

The Eichel trade is a benchmark for value. It included a 3rd round pick going to Vegas, which I omitted here.

All the contextual pieces can make any comp impossible (injury, center vs wing, etc). But for straight up value, I think it serves as useful comp. Both 25-year old captains, both with 4+ years on deal. Both 30-goal forwards. Eichel played a premiere position and produced more, but had higher AAV and injury risk.

I think it’s a fair comp to Eichel deal.

(And certainly more realistic than Bratt Nemec Bahl and top-10 pick)

I'm not sure I see Eichel trade as a comparable. I know that Eichel and Tkachuk are both locked into long-term deals, but I mean, Eichel as a trade was a very long saga. the divorce between player and team was a foregone conclusion for a long time, so it was more along the lines of Buffalo actively taking offers and then choosing the best one (obviously with some negotiation but you know what I mean). This is trying to pry the captain, star, and cornerstone piece of a 7-year long rebuild on a long-term and reasonable contract away from a team that has no desire or reason to trade him. If the Devils were really deadset on getting him, then it would take significantly more than fair value

Trades like this only occur when the player wants out or the team is trying to shop them.

If Tkachuk is on the market, the price will be the price.

If Tkachuk is not on the market, he will not be traded.

There is no magical super price that GMs are going to offer to get Tkachuk when he's allegedly not available.

Because it will always be better to simply target the players who are actually available at reasonable prices.

Exactly . And it’s a joke trying to trade fair offer for Brady when he’s 24 , has term , has no injury concerns , is a captain, brings way more than just production to the table and can’t pick which team he gets traded to.

You’re missing the context buddy. It got very ugly between Eichel and the Sabres . He wanted to pick a surgery that Buffalo did not want him to have . A lot of teams were worried about that surgery and if he’d ever be the same player again and how long his recovery time would be .

Only Vegas was okay with it . That surgery brought his value down like 80% .

No way Tuch would’ve been a centerpiece had he been healthy. You’d probably have been looking at a top 30-40 player ++

      Trying to look at it from OTT's perspective;

This is a team that desperately wants to make the jump to being a playoff contender. They have good young pieces and players entering their prime that should keep them relevant for a while if they can level up. If they do consider trading Brady (and I'm not sure why they would unless he's asking out), I think it will definitely be for a comparable player or package of players that will help the Sens win-now. I don't think Holtz + 2025 1st will be the type of significant pieces they're looking for.

IMO the centrepiece from NJD would be Bratt.

That surgery did not bring his value down 80% lmao.

I am asking you to find 1 example in the salary cap era of these massive packages of these superstars you suggest.

If you want to discount eichel because of injury, we can go to a power forward winger with the EXACT same PPG as tkachuk in the 2 years before he was traded.

      Timo Meier:
      In timo's favour:
      -better goal scorer
      -better defensive metrics
      -cheaper 1st year
-overall more term if signed (9 years)
-did it with significantly worse linemates

      In Tkachuk's favour
      -certainty of term
      -younger
      -more of a goon

But of course there's some magical fairy dust that Tkachuk has that apparently makes him vastly more valuable.

It hasn't actually led to on ice success, or team success, or success of any kind. But apparently it skyrockets his value.

100%. Brady is a very unique player. There's just obviously a huge disconnect between using basic critical thinking skills and having tunnel vision over comps in this thread.

I looked at John Marino’s analytics and they’re goddamn awful. I legit wouldn’t trade a 2nd for him.

Holtz has generally struggled with the pace of the game , he can still be a decent to great player but he’s a risk.

The pick is good but it falls right outside the high tier of players. So you’d be picking between like Greentree, Nygard those type of players

      Trying to look at it from OTT's perspective;

If by centerpiece you mean 1 for 1 maybe

That surgery did not bring his value down 80% lmao.

I am asking you to find 1 example in the salary cap era of these massive packages of these superstars you suggest.

If you want to discount eichel because of injury, we can go to a power forward winger with the EXACT same PPG as tkachuk in the 2 years before he was traded.

      Timo Meier:
      In timo's favour:
      -better goal scorer
      -better defensive metrics
      -cheaper 1st year
-overall more term if signed (9 years)
-did it with significantly worse linemates

      In Tkachuk's favour
      -certainty of term
      -younger
      -more of a goon

But of course there's some magical fairy dust that Tkachuk has that apparently makes him vastly more valuable.

It hasn't actually led to on ice success, or team success, or success of any kind. But apparently it skyrockets his value.

Again Meier legit was gonna be a ufa and no acquiring team was gonna trade for him without an extension. So again Meier chose where he was willing to sign

It’s really not the same as a guy with term left lmao
