I’m not the GM (obviously) but pretty confident no chance Leafs would do this.
Aside from the acquisition cost which is insane (2024 1st clearly off the table or Tre would have moved it at this TDL), term left on Gibson’s deal is non starter. And finally, he’s had another bad year - at the bottom of goals saved above expected again. Simply no chance

the only reason I would want Ryan Strome on the Caps is if we also went out and got JVR and Ryan Lindgren. Because that would be funny

The Leafs decline, maybe 3 years ago we would have liked Gibson.

Have you actually watched Gibson this year? Both he and Dostal have been fantastic. Never mind what the stats show. He’s on an awful team that generates no shot volume and no offensive zone pressure whatsoever and with a defense that leaves him hanging out to dry. I’m confident that if he’s on a legitimately good team, he’s one of the best goalies in the league.

I don't think that the Toronto and Dallas deals work. Anaheim probably won't retain that much (if anything) on Gibson, Gibby probably won't go to a Canadian team, and neither Reaves nor Robertson should have much appeal for the Ducks. Replacing Frank Vatrano with Robertson just to get a late 2025 first seems a firm step backwards. I'd re-sign Isac Lundestrom. I like the idea of signing Reinhart (of course) who naturally makes Strome redundant and Blackwell to replace Sam Carrick but I'm not a fan of Martinook, although that may just be me.

The likelyhood that we retain 50% on Gibson is the same as his waiting for Toronto, we aren’t and Gibby has already publicly said no to Toronto

Keep Vatrano unless its picks now

No, I don’t watch any games other than Leafs. I like your backup goalie - he stopped about a million shots the one game we played you. Stats aren’t everything but when they are consistently bad - year after year, hard to argue 🤷🏻. Goals saved above expected is designed to isolate goalie performance from team in front of him.
But leaving aside Gibson’s ability - both the acquisition cost & term make him entirely unattractive for Leafs. Woll will be our #1 and Hildeby will be up in a few years; we’re not sending a 1st or committing that much $ & term to 1B

What do you think about Hildeby? You like him now? You think he will be your future starter? 1A or 1B type?

I always think goalie 6’6+ are fun

Position is voodoo so who really knows, but he’s shown well in his 1st year in North America. I’d say another year (at least) in minors and then he should be good to backup Woll🤞. We also have Russian kid that’s looking promising; one of the few positions (winger & goalie) where we actually have good prospects

The fact is, no other team will be watching him like we have. And his stats do suggest he’s been outplayed by every 1B he’s had for years now. I legit think Gibby would be incredible for a better team, but I also think no other team is going to take that chance because his stats and salary are prohibitive

At the same time, Gibby said no to TOR, and ANA management would never retain that kinda salary. Especially for that return

Moving Strome will likely be harder than you think. I’m pretty sure we’re stuck with him

Not sure the thought process on trading 2 firsts to move up a handful of spots, but that doesn’t seem worthwhile at all

I kinda hate these D pairings. Luneau barely played hockey this year, let him develop in the AHL. Don’t mess with Lacombe’s development, let him play his natural side at LD. Fowler’s been bad, force him to RD. Zell needs a big, vet D partner, give him Gudas. Go sign a high end RD to pair with Minty (Pesce, Roy etc)

Caps have plenty of middle 6 Cs. They could be interested in Zegras though.

Gibson doesn't waive for Canada, And Pat Verbeek sure as hell isn't eating $3,200,000 x 3 years for such a poor offer.

Every single trade here is a massive L for the Ducks and guarantees we continue to rebuild for at least the next three years.

At a certain point you have to stop selling and turn the corner.
