Description
- LAND CELEBRINI:

Likely will end up last place, and say the 25% chance of selecting 1OA for Celebrini ends up working in SJ's favor for the first time in their franchise's existence.

- SIGN REINHART DEBRUSK

SJ was rumored to be in on Reinhart and nearly had him a few seasons back. Now that he's a UFA and still unsigned coming off a breakout campaign, Grier signs him with the plethora of cap space to play alongside Celebrini to give Celebrini's transition to the NHL as good a chance to be successful as possible. Reinhart also helps this young team in literally every facet of the game, and SJ has boat loads of cap space to give him the 10x7 offer. DeBrusk is another one of those Boston guys that Grier loves. He's looking for a payday and fits the bill of the team looking to get heavier with more talent and likewise helps Celebrini succeed in his move to the NHL.

- SIGN PESCE WALKER:

Pesce and Walker bring defensive stability to the team with solid play and allow guys like Mukhmadullin and Thompson to have the chance to develop their offensive game.

- MUSTY MAKES ROSTER; SMITH PLAYS IN AHL:

Musty has been tearing it up and it doesn't make all that much sense to have him return for another year in the OHL. Thankfully, he forces SJ's hand in this scenario and excels in training camp. Meanwhile, Smith shines as well but unlike Musty, he's allowed to play with the Cuda so the Sharks let him further develop there for a season (and put on more size / have him get used to the heavier men's game) and light up the AHL but give him a 9 game stint with the Sharks too at some point. Smith and Bystedt (possibly Edstrom) replace pending UFAs Granlund and Sturm in 2025.

- DEPTH SIGNINGS
Guys like Amadio and Trenin like Debrusk fit the bill of getting heavier to play against and solidify the bottom lines with not just size, but solid play in all 3 zones. They replace anchors like Hoffman and Kunin. Zadina has impressed offensively since the All-Star break and I can see him resigned to another 1 year deal but his defensive game is still atrocious and he doesn't have the size that the team is looking for, so here I have him walk.

This would be like super cool, I just think that this is rushing the rebuild, and we will have to pay top UFAs that much more to sign here

1/2 those FA aren't coming there, and SJS isn't going to spend that much without even building up it's youth core.

There is a 75% chance Celebrini won’t be a shark. Based on those odds I’d say he’s definitely a Blackhawk.

There is video evidence that Sam Reinhart was offered via trade to San Jose from Buffalo with the 14th overall pick in exchange for the number seven overall pick they used to take Eklund. San Jose said no, so Buffalo ended up offering him to Florida for Devon Levi and their 1st round pick (Jiri Kulich). Arguably Buffalo ended up with a better deal.

Agree with you. But these signings of players in their 30s and take them to their mid 30s and more seems disastrous. Isn't that one of the problems former GM Wilson did, signing older players to long term contracts. They decline and then still stuck with a high/bad cap.

exactly that, that was our downfall, I also think Reinhart's contract is going to be super ugly the last couple years no matter what team he is on, this in my opinion will be his best season

Agree about GM DW's long bad contracts. Too many 8 years x $8+M. However what's proposed here seems reasonable to me. We won't get Reinhart, Pesce, or Debrusk for less. Walker might be an overpay. Sharks need to spend some $ on top 4 D UFA's next year or repeat the disaster. Unfortunately I don't know if any decent UFA's would sign with the Sharks after this year. Maybe Celebrini is the draw.

I despise tanking, but the Sharks are so far down that road, with all that dead cap.

Just be bad until the bad money is off the books.

Actually, starting in July most of the bad money is off the books and the Sharks will have lots of cap to spend on UFA's. Reaching the floor will be difficult. Time to stop tanking. Or tanking so hard.

You guys just don't have the youth movement to be doing this yet.

I understand the Sharks have been bad long enough to justify that they should be on the upswing, but they lost out on some of those premium picks and young assets, that set the rebuild back like 3 years.

You're right. The Sharks are that difficult situation. They have to overpay for UFAs , which may lead to problems later regarding their cap and term. But since so many teams are at the cap, players are looking for a "home" on their last contracts. If possible try to find players that find California desirable as place to play/live.

Aren't Hertl and Karlsson on for quite awhile? Thats the dead money I refer to. It just doesn't seem prudent to try and be competitive during that time frame. Being less bad than this year would be good though.

It's only $1.4M / yr for Hertl and $1.5M / yr for Karlsson. Sharks didn't get much in those trades, but they did get cap space.
