I believe the idea of dumping Korpisalo, either by trade or buyout, would be for getting a better goalie, by trade, and Vanecek doesn't do that.

Vanecek could have a bounceback season next season. He was very good last year, this year he's been bad, maybe next year is the charm

Canes decline, might have interest in Zadina, but not in Kunin, and you're sure as hell not getting Kotkaniemi and a 3rd for him, that's pure delusion.

Flyers don't need to dump Petersen and Johanssen when they aren't in a need of cap space, espcially when the price is a 1st and a 2nd.

KK is playing 4C, do you really want a 5 million dollar 4C
It's a dump

Do you think the price would be fair though?
Maybe if you drop the 2nd and replace it with something it'd be fine - it is 9M for 1 year after all

If you think Kotkaniemi is a cap dump, you do not know anything about this player. He's one of the best chance creators in the NHL analytically, and a strong two way centerman. Not to mention, he's only 23. He's going to be the 3C long-term. You want the husk of Jordan Staal instead? That might make more sense, but even then the pick is probably a few rounds too high. I can tell you right now Kotkaniemi is going nowhere without someone paying heavily for him. Especially because the Canes have 30 million in cap space this summer, and KK is just more valuable than the 2 bottom six wingers they could pick up in that stead.

"maybe" isn't worth a late 1st and one of the few decent prospects left in Ottawa. I don't mind the idea of the Sens dumping Korpi for a reliable upgrade, but I agree with Bobrick - Vanecek ain't it. Especially when there's some compelling UFA options available this off-season.

From a value perspective 1st and a 2nd is probably fair, but Philly isn't in a need of cap space and they are still in a rebuild, so it isn't going to happen realistically.

I highly doubt that the Canes move KK unless it’s in a package for a massive C upgrade, much like the rumored package for Petterson. Worst case scenario, he ends up being the long term replacement for Staal as the 3C. Best case scenario, the Canes are able to fix the problem of his offense slowing down during the middle 40 games, and he is able to be a true 60-70 point 2 way 2C. Out of those 3 possibilities, all end up being beneficial to the Canes, so there is no point in either selling low or paying to dump him.

The canes would be lucky if it was only a 3rd to dump Kotkaniemi every team in the leauge views him as a cap dump and one the worst contracts in the leauge. The only reason he a "decent chance creator" is because of the system he plays. Analytics always favor the canes yet results never do

I don't think any team with a high end center is going to want KK back in a trade, that Pettersson deal was pure fantasy

Cool, then no other team in the league will have him. He's good defensively, a VERY strong chance creator. He's a very strong player that went through a mammoth cold spell. He's not a cap dump and simply watching him reaffirms that. His issue is that he went cold, but he started the season scoring at a PPG rate, which people love to forget about. He's a very strong 3C with 2C upside, he's a good value contract and he's signed long term. Teams that want him will have to pay, not the other way around.

That is quite a mammoth cold spell indeed. It lasted his entire career outside of the first 20 games or so of this season. Close to a 350 game cold spell, that must be some kind of record.

Have you stopped to consider that maybe he went on a hot streak for 20 games(and actually looking it up, it was 14 games) then returned to his normal form rather than went on a cold streak?

The Sens would want nothing to do with Vanecek but should be interested in dumping Korpisalo with a pick attached.

Counter Offer:

To SJS: Joonas Korpisalo, 2024 OTT 2nd round pick. (likely 37th-40th overall)
To OTT: A bag of pucks

Maybe in theory if this was a completely different team dumping 2 players with the same contracts it'd be semi-close, but for the Flyers it's not even remotely feasible.

The Flyers could, in theory, just bury both guys and still have more than enough money to add another big contract player to the lineup next season so long as they move Ellis to LTIR.

That's not even mentioning the fact that the whole reason we have those guys is because Briere wanted high picks.

Korpisalo has been bad enough and has too much term, it's probably going to take more than that to dump him.

I mean fair enough, he is one of the worst goalies in the league and 4 more years is outrageous. (Thanks Dorion) However, I doubt the Sens will attach a first to Korpisalo when the buyout is rather tolerable.

He ain't cold now, four points in six games since the deadline is about right for Kotkaniemi. It's not a career long cold spell, as he's needed time to develop, but surely you aren't that dumb. He's coming off a 40 point season was that a cold spell? He's coming off one of the best analytical defensive seasons by a Hurricane, that a cold spell? Shut up brother, you're clueless. He had 3 months where he couldn't score, his confidence completely dropped, and he struggled. He's still been generating chances, but he's been incredibly wasteful at this moment. It's just a matter of time with him, and simply watching him shows that

I've learned that a lot of what you say is just made up after the wild Staal icetime claims you tried to make so I double check claims like this now. 3 points in the last 6 games, including 2 secondary assists in the 7-2 win over Calgary. Surely that's just the new normal rather than him happening to have touched a puck at the right time.
