A Offseason Trade I would bet money on happening

Description
If you had to ask me today to name one trade that I had to bet on happening between today and puck drop next season this would be it.

Arizona has now for a few years collected insurance contracts to avoid meeting the salary floor. The deadline where they basically dumped a bunch of salary for essentially no return also supports this notion.

Little and vorachek are up this year so they need to find a new contract that has a cap hit that far exceeds the actual payout.

Price's deal depending on which reports you believe is covered somewhere between 85 and 100 percent. So even on the low end if hes traded after summer signing bonus the coyotes get 21 million in cap spend for at most 1.5 million.

Habs get a bit of flexibility in not dealing with ltir and the broke coyotes can avoid spending actual money.

Maybe some minor pick movement but thats the basis.

Good thought. The LTIR doesn't affect the cap in the 24/25 or 25/26 if the salary and bonuses don't go over 87.7m in 24/25..
But you're right.....Arizona might go "LTIR hunting" this summer.

Arizona will just put price on regular IR just like Weber currently is for them. They wont come remotely close to spending actually money to need to wprry abput ltir.

We have an entire defense to sign, plus hayton, we’re not going to be near the floor or in need of price.

This makes sense, it's time for MTL to move on. But it might be more than minor pick movement to incentivize ARI to take it. I know ARI is an LTIR dumping ground but MTL is still asking another franchise to do them a favor, so.

You had a entire team to sign last year and withput the ltiretired contracts ypu would be finishing this season 10+ million under the floor.

It will be the same issue as last season. Trying to find guys worth paying the amount of money needed to even make the floor will be almost impossible

Maybe like a 6th or a 7th. Looking at the weber little and vorachek trades they basically completed a minor side deal with it (Columbus got a depth goalie, vegas a depth d, and wpg gave them a depth prospect and got a pick back).

Arizona isn't doing that anymore.

They are trying now. They have to if they want a real arena

They didn't take on any ltir contracts last year did they? They signed real players.

It's not happening

Don’t think MTL does this. Keep Price name around and he doesn’t hurt us.

Can we relocate this poverty team already? They couldn’t even retain 50% on Zucker and Dumba to get a better return.

Because they had 3 IR contracts already.

Dont act like they didnt just dump a bunch of the guys they signed for essentially nothing so they didnt have to pay them for the rest of the year. They will less than 50 million in salary expenses this season for guys who played even a single game for the team

?

Yes he does hurt us we are over the cap without LTIR and that means all performances bonuses are penalties to the cap the following season. We also can't accumulate extra cap space throughout the season. At some point that contract has to go.

They traded pending ufas. Plenty of teams did that. I'm sure it was discussed when the players signed.

Ahh yes that 6th round pick for jason zucker really moved the needle or the move up from the 7th to 5th round for dumba.

They had 2 retention slots that they didnt use. They were dumping salary not trying to better their return

I would send them Price + Jesse Ylonen who has a bit of talent and potential but he needs a fresh start.
