The Pesce scenario is totally absurd, first off do you have any idea what signing a guy only to then turnaround and trade him would do to the reputation of the Hurricanes front office and GM, it would kill them in all future negotiations with players. So there is no chance Carolina does that, they either sign and keep him or he walks as a free agent at which point the Hawks could sign him without giving up the incredible overpay you are asking for.

Why would this be a joke? His GF/60 this year is 2.39, GA/60 is 2.47. Let's compare this to another player, with a GF.60 of 2.32 and a GA/60 of 2.44. Kotkaniemi's got an xGF/60 of 3.16 (this is incredible, anything over 3 is VERY strong) and a xGA of 2.55. The player I was comparing to in the opening has a xGF/60 of 2.62 and a xGA/60 of 2.56.

These two players are Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Nick Suzuki.... there is no world where saying Kotkaniemi is a great play driivng young centerman isn't cold, hard truth. If you just look at point totals instead of actually watching the player, like you apparently clearly do, you'd see this too.

GF and GA/60 doesn't scale linearly though, but okay. It also doesn't account for quality of competition.

QoC is offset here by QoT, Suzuki plays with Caufield, Kotkaniemi's playing with Fast. My point stands, he's still an incredible playdriver.
