Did you consider Teravainen - Crosby - Rust, DuClair - Malkin - DeBrusk, Bunting - Sissons - Puustinen? It seems odd to me to play Puustinen on his off side and up that high.

I think that your UFA signings are good ideas, no matter what they cost.

Columbus doesn't need Andonovski or Gruden, and probably doesn't want to move Blanks (who's kind of a fan favorite). Bjork and a 7th for JPO works for us if it works for Pittsburgh.

Duclair is a waste of space.
If they were going to retain on Smith they would have moved him already.

All tools, no toolbox as they say. There's a reason he's threatening Mike Sillinger's record for teams played for.

That doesn't mean he's a waste of space though. A sub 30, speedy, 25 goal scorer for 2.75mil would be amazing for the Pens. I think he's a somewhat similar stlye of player to Guentzel too - obviously not as good haha - but could slide in and produce well next to Crosby for a fraction of the price.

I'm just explaining why someone might describe him as such. I actually really liked him here in Columbus and still resent that he was traded for Dzingel in 2019. But he is the definition of all tools, no toolbox. Skates fast but has no idea where he's going.

Ah - I gotcha. Thought you were agreeing with him.

Of course there's going to be negatives - otherwise he'd be a ppg guy and making significantly more money haha. But even with no toolbox he's managed to produce fairly well - and I think is a good sign at that cap hit.

gee i don't know, you must like playing with guys who drift around the blue line, play no defense and just want the breakout pass.
Maybe explains why there is video of Torts laying into him while he was in CBJ in center ice..... along with a whole slew of people saying Torts never does that to players in practice.
He's all about him. No one needs that on their team and it's why he has never been able to find a permanent place.

Torts is a complete clown, so I wouldn’t be using him as an example of anything other than being a jack butt. We have a team full of defensive minded forwards who are backcheck champs. We can use a “cherry picker” because we need goals.

Torts is a complete clown?
When he left CBJ the team went right back to the bottom of the leauge.
When he went to PHL they are now in the playoff hunt.
You can say a lot of things about Torts... but him being a clown isn't one of them.
And no,, they don't need a cherry picker who isn't a team player. No one does. Which is why he can't ever find a long term contract.

I don’t want to make this about that jack butt of a coach but yes every team needs a skilled winger. Having a bunch of defensive minded forwards never works. You need scoring.

"skilled winger" you surely aren't talking about the cherry picker.

I really hate to break it to you, but you need players who will play both ends of the ice and be responsible.
That's the part you simply aren't getting.
No one is saying return to the horrible team construction that has taken place this year. But you can't have self interested players who won't play defense all over the ice either.

I don't know what the condescension is for I was just asking a question haha. I don't think using Torts is the best example either - and that also would've been what, 6 years ago?

I mean.... Guentzel doesn't play defense either. Of course every player is going to have negatives - but I still don't see how he's a waste of space. And a speedy, skilled, scoring winger that puts up like 25 goals/50 points at 2.75mil is actually exactly what the Pens need

I mean.... he didn't lol. So that would make you the clueless one. He graded out extremely bad defensively year after year. Which is fine - that doesn't automatically make someone bad obviously. Just pointing that out because that doesn't make Duclair a waste of cap space

Still haven't heard how Duclair is a waste of cap space at 2.75mil btw
