Markstrom has a 6m cap hit that comes with a 2.5m signing bonus that the team he is on has to pay essentially making him an 8.5m goaltender. No team in the league is going to pay to take on Markstrom at that kind of cap hit, even at 50% retained he is still a 5.5m goaltender at 35yrs old for 2 seasons. So the Flames are going to have a retained at least half to get any sort of interest and even then they would have to sell him low or to a team with a ton of cap space.

Not a very useful prospect for MTL due to the plentiful of LDs we have, but he's pretty decent. We likely accept, but possibly push to trade the COL 2024 2nd instead of the 2025 2nd
