Neither, 6OA and Barron barely buys Zegras, and that's if there's someone we really like at 6OA, if our guy is already off the board, the deal doesn't happen either.

Send someone to Chicago or San Jose if you need cap relief.

Umm no that’s not how it works you get top 6 pick and Barron and either get big winger or bottom 6 Centre that is really good at faceoffs 😤

We taking gamble on Z

mtls 1st is overpay

i think it a fair exhange can be achieved.

anaheim would be dealing from a position of relative wekness.

z's contract problems and missing cap will def work against them

lol no

6OA is the player you hope becomes Z or better, which takes 2-4 years minimum. Barron is arb eligible next year and isn't a top 4 dman on a good team for the next 2 years at best. At worst, he's a good 4/5 Dman... Z is a playmaking center right now.

if 6 overall barely buys Zegras you might want to reconsider your chart value of all NHL players.

MTL 2024 first round is not available for Zegras . Too high of a price, just draft. Zegras end is first contract last year he is not on cheap contract anymore ,he miss 3/4 of the season due to injurie we have enough of those in our team , we need player on the ice. he does not have top 5 pick value anymore.

If MTLs 1st isn't on the table, and your not willing to give up Reinbacher or Slafkovsky, then you can't afford Zegras, that simple.

No, 6OA is the gamble, Zegras is a known top 6 NHL player at 22 years old, 6OA could be a bust like Lafrenier, Kakko, Puljujarvi, Dal Colle, etc.

And Barron's a bottom pairing D on a competitor, frankly you'd need to give up a Beck tier piece with 6OA to land Z.

Reinbacher feels like a bust of a pick already...

A top 5 pick is what you HOPE becomes Zegras... and his contract is quite good still. Ya'll MTL fans are expecting way too much of draft picks

Yeah, they seem to forget that for every Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk there's a Filip Zadina and Jake Virtanen. (All taken 6OA)

Not all drafts are created equal. Just looking this years draft eligible players, I don't think any team is trading out of the top 8, and if ANA wants to add another one of those picks, my guess they are the ones adding to Zegras. The reasoning that Zegras is already established in the NHL right now is bogus, and ANA should know this more than anyone, since they traded an established top young player in Drysdale for Gauthier...and look at that, ANA were the ones who had to add an asset.
This draft is interesting, the reports stating this will be a weak draft has more to do with the draft not being very deep. So after the top 15-20 players, there's a significant drop. But looking at all the scouting articles (the Athletic, TSN, Sportsnet, NHL network, etc.) Aside from Bedard, the top 15-20 is far deeper than last year.

My guess is if ANA gets an offer for a 1st that's between 9-13 overall (and a RD is still available) along with a blue chip prospect (like a Barron, Beck, Mesar, Mailloux type player for MTL), Verbeek pulls the trigger. I just think MTL should stay away from Zegras altogether. ANA still need high end offense, and if they are willing to move Zegras anyway...I don't know what a bigger red flag could be....

Care to expand on this? You know how short the list of players putting up 60+ points twice before their ELC was over is? There's been 13 centers to do that in the entire salary cap era.

Drysdale wasn't established, he had a good rookie season and then had every season after that destroyed by injury, go check his stat sheet since season one for games played. He was a distressed asset just like Dach was. I hope the kid finds health and success but we were all starting to get real concerned about his development due to how often how was getting injured and how many man games lost he has.

We're not looking to move him, our GM has publicly stated that to the press, the rumors that came out about it are from Seravalli, and his track record at being right about Anaheim is the same as mine is at bedding Hollywood superstars, zero.

Secondly, those aren't blue chip prospects, those are A- prospects, large difference. Reinbacher is a blue chip prospect, maybe.

Lastly, we again plan to keep Zegras in Anaheim, but with the level of ACGMs rolling in from Habs fans for the last two months trading everything under the sun, and usually crap offers like two late 2nds and Dvorak and a B prospect, we put together three options for Habs fans. Slafkovsky straight up, Reinbacher + MTLs 25 2nd, or 6OA + a Beck level prospect.

Those are the kind of offers that might pique Verbeeks interest enough to trade Zegras, otherwise he stays in Anaheim.

Literally every news outlet and NHL "insider" has Zegras on their trade board. Saying this is just coming from Seravalli at this point is just false.
Kent Hughes also used the same phrasing with Savard... he says at a press conference "We aren't looking to move him".... but everybody and their grandmother knows he's available. If Zegras wasn't on the market, he should be considered in the same boat as Carlsson for ANA, and you'd never hear his name in trade rumors. Because it would be ridiculous to suggest it.
ANA fans love comparing Zegras to Caufield when Habs fans pitch a trade for Zegras. "wOuLd YoU tRaDe CaUfiIeLd FoR tHaT pAcKaGe???"... but have you ever heard Caufield's name anywhere... nope, neither has anyone else...

You can make any crystal ball / "I know what Verbeek thinks" opinions all you want. My entire argument stems from the mere consideration of moving Zegras should be a red flag.
ANA need offense, so moving Zegras for a 6th overall pick or Reinbacher or whatever (which would be terrible deals for MTL) is essentially hitting the reset button, which means there are issues with Zegras that imo Habs should just stay away from.
Teams obviously do these "reset" trades (like the Drysdale / Dach trades) but as you mentioned, they are usually because of injuries impacting development. If this isn't the case with Zegras (because, as you mentioned again, he's already established himself with two 60+ pts seasons) then wanting to "reset" is due to other underlying issues, and I have ZERO interest in finding out what those issues are as a Habs fan, when the "supposed" price tag you claim is a top 8 pick+, or Slafkovsky, or Reinbacher+. You can keep Zegras at that point.

And MTL fans on here were trading for him all summer because he wasn't signed to a contract, and then he was, and you lot can't seem to let that go, so the second Seravalli broke the "news" everyone else picked it up and ran with the rumour, and it ended up on every trade board, because no one bothered to do the legwork and call Verbeek, or Zegras' agent.

You don't think the agent that leaked contract negotiations "details" to spark outrage amongst the fan base WOULDN'T confirm to an insider that he was trying to get his player traded if asked? And you're trying to call me naive for brushing off the fact that he was in trade rumors?

Verbeek was never shopping him, was never advertising he was available. Did he take a few calls inquiring on him? Yeah, probably, it's his literal job to take and place calls on players, that's an integral part of being a GM.

But sure, continue to believe the fluff pieces that are out there claiming that he's available. We'll happily enjoy watching him play here for a long, long time.

I feel like you're arguing with someone else lol I've repeatedly said that I don't want him and Habs should exercise caution with Zegras...especially at you're (or should I say Verbeek's since you know what he thinks) ridiculous asking price.

I'll also happily enjoy watching him on the Ducks. I highly doubt it's for a long time though...
