Adding the 25 1st is overkill. 6OA + a Beck level prospect of interest should get it done if a guy Verbeek wants is on the board at 6.

6OA alone is overkill. Would rather just keep that pick

I think the 6-7-8th overall + Barron + a 2nd and a 3rd is more realistic. Just look the return for DeBrincat to the Sens. That's can be the same type of return, maybe a little bit more but not two 1st round pick.....

A version of this trade has honestly been proposed by a Habs fan somewhere close to 100 times in the last few months. And by this trade I mean ‘24 MTL 1st, Harris, Yllonen. For the 101st time (sorry for the snark but not sure why we’re still doing this):
Harris - less than zero interest in ANA
Yllonen - less than zero interest
MTL ‘24 1st - very attractive
MTL ‘25 1st - very attractive but likely overkill on value

Drop the uninteresting prospects, add someone like Beck/Mesar, lose the second first rounder and at least the value is right with pieces ANA would care about

Even still, the trade is highly unlikely for 3 reasons:
1. Verbeek wants to compete for playoffs next year and has talked about adding a bonafide top 6 wing. Any Zegras trade is a big step back in an area he already feels we’re shorthanded
2. The only players Verbeek would likely consider this for at 6th are probably gone or MTL would just prefer to draft them (Lev and Lindstrom)
3. You’re trading for a player that isn’t available. Lebrun dispelled the rumor like a month ago based on multiple inside sources (something the original rumor lacked) and Verbeek outright said the same in an interview this past week

You're welcome to your opinion, but MTL won't get Zegras without a blue chip piece centering the deal, and that blue chip piece is one if Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, or this years 1st well inside the top 10. Otherwise Zegras is staying put in Anaheim, since he isn't, nor was he at all, shopped this season.

All valid points. Actually, I'm get feedback from some Duck fans and they're saying that the deal is fine. They would trade Zegras to get 2 picks in the top six.

The deal is fine conditionally (24 1st plus a Beck level guys, or the trade proposed by ht42). If someone Verbeek covets and values highly enough is available at MTLs pick (like this trade occurs when MTL is on the clock) it COULD happen.

However, Cronin is happy/excited to have Zegras, he bring a level of hockey IQ and offensive instinct to the team that no one else has, and while he's been poor defensively in the past, defense at the NHL takes time to develop, Eichel was **** defensively in his early years too, and Zegras made it a point to improve upon that this season, but of course, most people on here don't want to bother looking into that's they just latch onto "Zegras sucks defensively" and try to claim he should be available for a grab bag of middle 6 pieces.
