Sell at the deadline and be ready in the offseason

Description
The more I watch this team the more obvious it is they are just pretenders. I had no expectations going into this season so the points they've accumulated have been a pleasant surprise. They are obviously going to make the playoffs but I am not expecting much. Trade what you can now, and be ready to make some serious moves in the offseason. Get some of the Providence guys some playoff experience and hopefully they are fully ready to play NHL minutes next season.

Somebody will especially with 50% retention. He is a solid piece that makes a real contending team a lot better.

You don’t need to sell. This team isn’t that bad and they have a culture of winning and playing playoff style hockey when it matters. Relax a bit.

They need to go get a legit top 6 centre and they’ll be fine. They should been all in on Lindholm but now it’s time to find another option.

They were, but then backed off once they couldn't negotiate an extension beforehand.

This team shouldn’t be selling. They have the second most points in the league. They need a few tweaks.

van Riemsdyk at $1M with a 50-pts pace can get you more than a 4th. Maybe someone gives a 3rd for Grzelcyk half retained, but I'm not sure.

bruins fans are such an annoying bunch.
Yes, they're going through a rough patch right now. the fact that this is their rough patch is incredibly encouraging for a couple reasons:
1. it's coming at the right time. add at the deadline, regroup, and get hot before the playoffs.
2. this rough patch has them losing to vancouver in OT. it's not like they're getting their doors blown off.

I am realistic. I have said from the beginning of the year that anything positive is a bonus from this group. They aren't bad at all but not a real cup contender. In this case you don't hold on to expiring contracts. Get what you can. Ullmark obviously has another year left and to me that has significant value for a team like the Kings. Two playoff runs with Ullmark is better than one. If they are going to trade Ullmark in the offseason like everyone suspects, why not do it now?

i think you're confusing realistic with reactionary.

settle down. they lost a few games in OT. whatever. around this time of the year in the season they won the cup they lost 6 out of 7, and before that 4 out of 5. it is reactionary, not realistic to suggest this team sell.

That's fine but don't tell me you believe they are contenders. There is no way you truly believe this. I hope I'm dead wrong and go on a crazy cup run but I just don't see it from this group.

Wait and see how much the other rentals bring back but if it's similar to Monahan, I could see a desperate team willing to move a (late) 2nd in the final hours before the deadline.

i absolutely believe they're contenders because i don't have the memory of a goldfish. during this bad stretch they've beat edmonton, vancouver, colorado, and lost to vancouver in OT. They need to make a couple tweaks in my opinion, but to say they're not contenders is just the epitome of reactionary.

Hope you're right. I just don't see it. Too many 3rd/4th liners miscast as 1st/2nd liners.

In a perfect world?

Coyle/Zacha/Debrusk/Frederic/Debrusk all 3rd liners on a true cup team. Maybe make a case for a few as real 2nd liners but most ideally here excel in a 3rd line role.

those are all top six players. what you might have an argument for is there not being enough first line players and them basically having four second liners in their top six. that being said, frederic is playing like a first line guy right now. he's kind of being slotted into the jack of all trades role. They're going to have to trot out a second line center on the top line out of necessity, but given how strong their blue line and goaltending is, I don't think that even starts the discussion of knocking them out of contender status. Afterall, they are second in the league in points.

Another thing to point out is that there is a pretty big emphasis placed on style of play and culture in boston. it's one of the reasons they're so good. so while some might say, "Charlie Coyle as a first line center, LOL," he might be a pretty good fit for boston. He's 29th among centers in the league in points, before going through and filtering out the guys listed as centers that are definitely wingers (looking at you stamkos), and in boston I think they want their top line center to be a guy they trust with tough matchups more so than just filling the net.

they aren't the runaway favorites like they were last year, but contenders? come on. of course they are. vegas, who tends to know what they're doing has them with the third strongest odds.

I would be more worried about the Defensive core than the Top6. Florida proved last year that all they had to do was forecheck our Dmen aggressively and they’ll turn the puck over. McAvoy and Lindholm folded under heavy pressure in their own zone and became turnover machines. Which ever head coach we play against in the first round would be a moron not to exploit this.

ya, so that's kind of revisionist history in a major major way. i'll cut you some slack on lindholm, because the guy couldn't skate. broken feet aren't fun and it showed in that series.

other than that i think this is some doomsday nonsense with a smidge of some cherry picked line that felger cherry picked from some other guy, who just throws out buzzwords.

Watch the series again Carlo was the only good defenseman the entire time. I share your optimism that the Bruins are cup contenders this season I just believe the Dcore needs the most improvement outside of getting a 1C but that won’t happen this trade deadline.
