I think it's wild that anyone would imagine the Blues would add a bunch of cap in a Sunny trade. There's a good chance he's not going anywhere, and if he does loads of teams will go in for him. The offer above is a total favor to the Leafs.

Don't see a reason for the blues to want Kampf. Don't like that he has 3 years left

Hawks decline. That offer might not get Murphy without retention. Other than the 1st there is nothing there that interests the Hawks.

With no retention, it's a maybe at best. With 50% retention, this is a poor return for the Hawks

Connor Murphy provides no value to us beyond his current deal and is very much on the decline. If we can get another first rounder in 2024 for him, I will drive him to the airport myself.

Don't think pens will retain on Smith, specially given there are rumors that they've received calls about him.

If they sell goal is to create cap space for summer, they'd only retain on pending UFAs

If it was just a 1st for Murphy with 50% retention I would be up in the air on it but the added 3rd round pick and Tverberg, who in my opinion is an interesting prospect, makes this an acceptable deal.

At the end of the day I think Murphy is worth an early to mid 2nd round pick. He probably carries a little more value to the Hawks because of the youth on their backend. Increasing the pick to a 1st rounder plus adding a mid pick and B - level prospect adequately covers the retention.

My feelings on Timmins have been expressed many times, he fills a jersey until his next injury, which unfortunately will be here shortly.

And his current deal lasts for the most formative years of this rebuild. I think his work ethic, leadership, and knowledge make him invaluable to our young roster. I also firmly believe that he would be much better on a better team. The numbers lie, for obvious reasons, CHI is very bad right now. You put him in games that actually matter on a roster where the individual players know what they are doing and can pull their own weight in a highly competitive environment, and he is going to shine, defensively (maybe even offensively, too). We literally have no reason to move him for less. It's less about "what he is worth on the open market" and more about "what he is worth to CHI. Also, we shouldn't be shooting ourselves in the foot and contribute to a negative perception and devaluation of Murphy. Don't let the schlubs that don't actually watch him or know anything about him convince us what he is and what he isn't.

That all being said, I am not going to throw a fit if KD moves him for a package like this. A late 1st, if used properly, helps the rebuild, and we aren't going to need the cap space that retention uses. I would prefer a better player and prospect, but I understand if this is what a Murphy deal looks like.

Thanks for the different perspective, Murphy I think is a very polarizing player, people seem to really love him or think he is total trash. A part of me would really like to see him on a good, competitive team just so we can see the value he could bring in meaningful games.

For sure I agree that he would be a lot better on a non-tanking team, however, I think it just boils down to the fact that he isnt going to be on this team when we compete, and if we can get a return similar to that of McCabe for him, I will be very much on board with accepting that offer. If we have two late firsts in the draft, that gives us so much more flexibility to think about trading into the top 15 ish picks to scoop a falling prospect , or simply to think less about drafting for need at the top. Going into the draft with 3 firsts is a whole different ball game than trading back into the 1st at the last minute to scoop a guy you want.

I mean, we saw him on some mediocre Blackhawks teams and, outside of injury, he was looked pretty solid in the top pairing defensive D role before Bowman acquired Jones pushed him down the depth chart and then the team went right off a steep cliff. Statistically, the pairing of Zadorov and Murphy were the best shutdown pair in the league that year. His play went downhill when his reps went down and the roster got worse overall.

Yeah. I'm on the fence. I understand either way, though. I don't know how much this would play into KD's decision, either, but Murphy's wife is about to have a baby and he has been injured. Though, he did trade Cat right after his wife had a baby. But that was a draft day deal, so he didn't have to worry about being on the road right away or anything. Like @Hawksguy81 usually says, too, I doubt they move him at this years deadline, anyway, but you never know. Also, if Korch comes back improved next year and they want to keep them paired together again, that will go a long way in the public perception of Murphy and could net us an even better return than what we might get this year.
