I find this fairly confusing. Bjorkstrand is a fine player but he's 28, only has 2 years of team control (5.4m not cheap either) and we'd be giving up two premium assets for him. Maybe we're competitive in the final year of his contract, but that's a big maybe.

Zuccarello is 36 with 2 years on an extension that also isn't cheap. He's a very good player but this is a trade that moves us away from being competitive in the long run. If he was a UFA I'd say hell yeah sign him, otherwise I'd rather keep Ozzy and a 33-34 OA pick.

It’s to bring in 2 legit top 6 wings to play with Eklund, which should help bring his game to another level. Increased depth also allows Couture to move to wing. That’s a pretty good top 9 forward group. If Bjorkstrand and Zuc don’t work out you can flip them to re coup some of the assets.

Honestly, I just think its too soon to be adding short term players using long term assets. We'd be a little better, but I don't think enough to challenge for a playoff spot (That D is still pretty rough) and giving up those assets just prolongs the rebuild further.

Also both player's have trade protection and I doubt they want to come to San Jose.

Selling low on Ferraro. No Chance Sharks let him go for that small of a return

Gushchin is a potential top 6 forward right about to make the NHL. Why throw that away along with a 1st for a second liner who'll be in his 30s when the Sharks are competitive again.

And why in the world are you trading a 2nd and future depth forward for a 36 year old pending UFA.

I had to check to make sure you were even a Sharks fan

No way - imo - that Ferraro returns a 1st. He’s LHD, undersized, no real offense and his defensive metrics are terrible. I get that he plays in a bad team but that cuts both ways - he only gets top 4 minutes & tough matchups because he plays on a bad team; on a good team he’s 2nd/3rd pairing.

Honestly, I don't see how the Seattle trade makes sense for either side. Seattle's in more of a contending phase, so having Bjorkstrand, a proven top six winger, is more valuable to them than a late first and a winger prospect whose ceiling is probably what Bjorkstrand is right now. There's no guarantee Gushchin reaches that level anyway, and even if he does it won't be until years down the road. San Jose on the other hand is in a deep rebuild, so they should be hoarding prospects and draft picks, not trading them away for someone whose contract will likely expire before the Sharks are ready to return to contention at the NHL level.

SJ needs a legit top 6 winger for next year. Telling the kids come up and score 30 just is going to destroy morale
