With Sergachev cap space

Description
Trying to be creative with TB cap space from Seegachev injury!

They need a bit more forward depth and D help.
Overall they pick up Johansen, Armia and Savard. (With retention on the lattter two)

Yes no world beaters but good depth and players who have played well in playoffs before and the KEY THING IN ALL THIS:

The NET COST TO TAMPA IS NOTHING.

The 2nd round pick they get for taking Johansen, is used to acquire the 2 habs players. So given Tampa isn’t as good as they used to be be, this does provide some added depth to their lineup to support their very high end top of the lineup, while sacrificing none of their picks or prospects.

Salary cap for Tampa should be close to working I think. If not, ship a useless league minimum contract out in the MTL trade.

COL
    Future considerations

Colorado opens up 4M in cap space. With Sergachev 8M off the books, Tampa adds a forward for depth and picks up a 2nd round pick in the process to use in a separate trade

Tampa Bay is hoping Johansen can find a somewhat similar version of himself from past years. Key part here is Tampa picks up some draft capital to use in further trade
    2.
    TBL
    1. Armia, Joel
    2. Savard, David
    Détails additionnels:
    Habs retain 50% on Savard
Get another team to retain 25% on Armia for this year and next. (Roughly 850K of retention) for maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick paid for by Tampa

Pick up a D they are familiar with for 1.75M for this year and next
Pick up Armia for this year and next for under 3M

Total added salary from this trade is around 4.2M

    Détails additionnels:
Habs clear out Armia and make room for prospects next year.
    Same thing with Savard.

Habs pass. We would want a 2024 second if we trade Savard

Fair, but I don’t think it’s so far offf. We have made quite a few second round picks in recent years and have 4 1sts in next 2 years. I don’t mind taking a later 2nd round pick in 2026 which we could use at the deadline during that season to bolster our lineup for the year. In 2 years, we are likely in the playoffs so we will need some draft capital then. Thinking of future

I dont think it will cost a 2nd to dump johansen, they might be able to get a 3rd. Savard retained might be interesting but they arent going to want armia this or next season. Would be willing to spend the 2025 2nd + the 3rd from colorado for Savard 50% retained

edit: nvm I didnt realise johansen had 2 years left, tampa wouldnt be able to afford him next season

Damn. Fair point though…I think Tampa could do something like this though to weaponize the cap space. Maybe not RyJo though

I mean it costs them nothing outside of cap space and they pick up some good depth

He's signed next year that $4,000,000 cap hit means there is zero money to resign Stamkos what part of that makes the statement incomprehensible? It doesn't hurt this year but next year TB is cap F***Rd doing this giving up Stamkos next season to acquire Johanson now is utterly moronic.

I’d rather have a prospect than a second in 2 years. Finley or Howard

You can try it out and flip him in the off-season

If he were easily flipped Colorado wouldn't like in this scenario be giving a 2 to take him . At least that's the logical conclusion I come to

Is rather get the pick here and use it to flip at deadline in 2026 for some help . We will be close to playoff contention and could use the extra draft capital. We have enough prospects

Armia 50% retained is worth at least a 3rd, Savard on his own is worth a 1st in the TDL market. Id want at least a 1st and 3rd for that package
