I’m sure he would waive if his other option is press box.

Not sure how much more they are expecting for these two but all the prospects in this trade are legit.

well he continues to play over 20 minutes a night so maybe we can take that into account when toronto starts applying that pressure.

i guess MAYBE he doesn't have columbus on the 10 team no trade list? but that feels unlikely. and given there's 20 teams he can be moved too freely, i feel like they'd just focus their efforts on moving him to one of those places vs. trying to get him to waive by threatening him with scratches for the rest of the year.

jiricek is more valuable to columbus than minten is just due to positional needs. so we wouldn't do a straight swap, we'd require additional comp. maybe you say jiricek for minten and niemela and then boone for robertson and the picks and then brodie is cap filler? i just don't think we bother. robertson would be so buried on our wing depth chart already, especially if we had minten. it'd be so low that he'd only have value as a piece in another trade.

CBJ just took Jiricek 6th overall like 1.5 yrs ago. They have no interest in trading him and Jenner so why would they sell them for quantity.

Neither of these players are being shopped, so it will take a big overpay to get them. Without even speaking to the quality of prospects, we have:

I assume the 5th is take Brodie, since he has no value to us and we dont want him and is only included to make the cap work.

Boone at very least is worth a 1st and good prospect, so that would be the 1st and Minten. This is still likely not enough to get him, but whatever.

So then you are left with a 3rd, Niemela, and Robertson for Jiricek which obviously doesnt even come close.

Jiricek is apart of the long term future. This offer doesn’t get close to what we would need to move him.
Jenner could possibly be had.

Jiricek is a young, 6OA d+2, NHL D-man now with serious 1RD potential...and the only one of those we have. There's maybe one or two prospects like that in this year's draft, and they'll certainly be gone in the top 10 (potentially in the top 5).

Unless we're getting a 1RD or top-5 pick back (since there's no guarantee we'd be able to replace him even with a top-10 pick, and that player is still 2+ years away from the NHL), it makes far more sense to keep the guy we already have who's under contract for 2 more years and under team control for at least 5 more.

I'll say it 'till I'm blue: Based on that, I don't think the Leafs even have the pieces to land Jiricek, period. Unless they go nuts and decide to move Matthews (and Jiricek is a part of that deal).

Jenner simply isn't available at this time, but if he were, I'd take Minten, the 2024 1st, and the 2024 NYI 3rd.
