My ideal TDL and offseason

Description
The main goal in the offseason for me would be to move out some vets and let the younger guys play. I would also target a top 6 LW for the future and I think Sprong fits that role nicely, he's deserving of a pay raise, and the Blues could offer him one. I wouldn't hate keeping Buch, but at the same time I don't see this team being a contender for at least another 3 years and by then he'll be 33 and his contract might start to get bad, it might not, but you never know. I think if you get a good enough offer for him you have to take it. But then again, if some team offers you very little or no top prospect, you can easily just say no.

In this lineup I think Dvorsky and Bolduc would compete for a spot on the 3rd line.

My favorite thing about this hypothetical scenario is how it opens up roster spots for our young players in the future. Smith would leave in free agency a year after and open up a roster spot for Bolduc or Dvorsky (whoever didn't make the team in this year). Defensively, Chiarot could be replaced at the end of his 2 years by Lindstein who is turning into a great prospect. I also like the addition of Drury because he can play up and down the lineup and his age fits what the Blues should be looking for.

Swap of 2 players. I originally proposed this and it just makes sense for both teams to me.

Détails additionnels:
Deal made at previous trade deadline. The canes need to make a move to push them over the top. I could see this move doing that. Getting Buch for 2 cup runs would be huge for them.

It really doesn't have to be the canes though. If the Blues move Buch they'll get a return in between what meier got and what lindholm got. The 2nd is added for the retention.

Détails additionnels:
Deal made at previous trade deadline. Gives the rangers a solid 3C that they are familiar with while Chytil is out for at least this season and maybe longer. Maybe add a low to mid prospect but the idea is to create a roster spot for younger players on the Blues.
NYR
  1. Hayes, Kevin (1 785 714 $ retained)

STL
  1. Chiarot, Ben
  2. Tuomisto, Antti
  3. Viro, Eemil
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (DET)
Détails additionnels:
If Detroit misses out on Roy (which I think LA will keep him), Faulk would be a great backup option. Chiarot has a bad contract and yes Faulk is a little overpaid but making less than 2 million more than Chiarot, it's a great upgrade for detroit.

This deal would be made in the offseason.
8.
STL
  1. Choix de 5e ronde en 2025 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
Similar to the Kevin Hayes trade last offseason. The only team Krug will accept a trade to is likely Boston, but do they even want him. If Krug declines this trade or Boston declines, I would just buy Krug out, it's time the Blues play some younger defenders and give Perunovich a run in the top 4 full time.
BOS
  1. Krug, Torey (3 250 000 $ retained)

Probably would have to swap Morrow to someone like Heimosalmi for the Canes to accept.

Buch is great but the canes would pass here. That is a lot for a 1.25 seasons and too old for the Canes to re-sign

I do agree with your take on the team (that they're likely not going to be a contender for 3 years, and so why bother really). But I think there could be more follow through on the direction to set up that future contention window.

If they're not going to be a contender for three years, why waste a retention slot to dump Krug for basically nothing when his contract will be up in three years anyway (with his trade clause reducing in one year), while keeping Parayko's contract (years 34-37 of which would be running through the "new" contention window) instead of trying to trade him instead? I think he's played pretty well but the upside is that he's the SAME player in three years. He's not going to be a better player. He'll probably be a worse one. Why should a non-contending team take that risk? Keep Krug (or Faulk) instead and peacefully move on in three years, while maybe someone gives you something actually useful now in order to take on the last 6 years of that Parayko deal at full freight.

If they're going to sell assets with term, the assets that make sense to sell are a) players who are good and/or b) players whose remaining term is prohibitive for the long term future of this team. To me that describes Buchnevich/Parayko/Binnington/maybe Faulk. I'm not really worried about moving Leddy/Krug/Schenn/Saad. Most of both groups will have to turn over sooner than later, as we'll need the roster spaces, but as far as maximizing value while not handcuffing the future goes, I think the first group should be the priority on moving out.

I am interested in the Saad trade but not this year.
I don't think there is much of a point in it this year for PIT. Come talk to me next year at TDL. I might be willing to make that swap.
As of right now I see no benefit for PIT. Smith will be a contract year next year. I want to see how he plays. My thoughts are the play improves.
If not, and you still want to swap, depending on Saad's play we'll see.

Would Carolina take Buchnevich for Kk + Morrow + 1st?

Unlikely having our 2nd best prospect involved in a buch deal. Trading KK sets us back in the center department too.

Makes sense. Didn’t know if Canes and Blue would be training partners for Buchnevich. Especially after the haul Calgary got for Lindholm I expect Buchnevich to get more
