"Wild decline" MAF has a full NMC and if you think its wise to hold onto an diminishing asset for hypothetically nothing all the more power to you. Again thats assuming he wants to be traded and only will go to a true contender
Yeah and you're outside of your entire mind if you think it's going to play out where Fleury says "I'll only accept a trade to Colorado" and Guerin says "yeah I guess I'll accept whatever Colorado wants to give me for him"
Fleury is going to make the decision on if he wants to be traded or not
Fleury is going to give Guerin a list of teams he'll accept a trade to
Guerin is going to go to those teams and try to negotiate
If Guerin doesn't get what he wants, he won't trade Fleury
"If you think it's wise to hold onto an diminishing asset for hypothetically nothing" - as if a 5th round pick has value? As if we just can't afford to pass on an extra 5th rounder? Fleury has more value to the Wild franchise for 2 months- on-ice, in the locker room, fan sentiment and good will, merchandise sales, etc- than a 5th rounder who turns into nothing would.
So it's an absolute braindead take to sit here and pretend that the Wild have to get bent over by the Avs or anyone else and take whatever they can get because of a stupid reason like "Fleury has a NMC and controls where he wants to go". He doesn't, the Wild still control where he goes.
