Habs will not offer that... KH is smart enough not to trade the farm and two top 10 picks for a unidimensional guy like Zegras.

    Hellllll noooo.

I think Zegras is way overrated by some fans on this forum.

I would only trade huge packages for players that are more than one dimensional.

Crosby, Lindros, Francis, etc… players that are multi-dimensional have a lot to offer. Example, if Crosby doesn’t score one night, he can kill a penalty, start a fight, throw a hit, win faceoffs, etc.

Zegras doesn’t strike me as a multi-dimensional player. He scores (and not at elite levels either). He’s a slightly above average scorer.

My offer would be one of our LHD not named Guhle or Hutson, and a 1st that is top10 protected.

    That’s it.

How does LA justify putting either Talbot or Rittich on waivers for Allen when they both are out playing him at a fraction of the cost.

As much as we Anaheim stalwarts would like to see Reinbacher and the 2024 first (top 5 protected), this offer minus the 2025 pick might be the most Zegras brings. If it is, I hope Pat Verbeek declines it.

Well, guys like Alex Ovechkin and David Pastrnak can be characterized as unidimensional, too. That doesn't mean that you wouldn't want them on your team (or that Zegras is in their class, by the way). I don't see you Habs fans conceding that Cole Caufield is no more defensively gifted than Zegras. But you're absolutely right that Hughes wouldn't make this offer, and I understand why.

Why are you retaining on Gally and giving away a 2nd rounder when you literally have 13 million in cap space?

Harris + Protected 1st, maybe add a mid pick/piece (2nd/3rd or Farrell type piece) but I agree.

Don't get me wrong... he's a good player... but In the same way... I would not spend those asset to acquire Caufield if he was on another team. That's a king ransom!

    (1) Do you guys even try to pay attention to other teams? Even if you didn't know that Anaheim is fully stocked on the left-hand side but would be looking for a potential top-4 RhD for Zegras, I would have thought that every time a Montreal ACGM comes up with a Zegras trade proposal, the fact that our automatic reply is for David Reinbacher would have given you a clue.

    (2) Trevor Zegras, 2021-2022 (his first full season): 23 goals, 38 assists = 61 points, -21
    Nick Suzuki, 2021-2022 (his third season): 21 goals, 40 assists = 61 points, -29
Trevor Zegras, 2022-2023 (his second full season): 23 goals, 42 assists = 65 points, -24
    Nick Suzuki, 2022-2023 (his fourth season): 26 goals, 40 assists = 66 points, -13

    (3) Trevor Zegras, first 99 games: 26 goals, 48 assists = 74 points
    Juraj Slavkovsky, first 85 games, 10 goals, 18 assists = 28 points
    Cole Caufield, first 123 games, 53 goals, 31 assists = 84 points

Maybe Trevor Zegras wouldn't be the disastrous addition you all think he would be.

All I said was I agree with the offer proposed in that comment + a little bit. You don't have to like it or accept it and that's fine but based on KH trade track record that's about par for what he'd give up.

    Newhook, late 1st + early 2nd
    Dach, upper-mid 1st + 3rd

Offering MTL's protected 2024 1st (ie 8th OA atm), Harris, and another piece (for the sake of argument make it the COL 2nd) runs along the same lines as those two previous trades and would in fact be the most expensive acquisition of the three. I understand they're not all the same player and metrics and scenarios and etc etc etc but it is very much similar and that would make this a realistic offer.

I fully think you should hold out for more if you think you can get it, he's under contract and you're not in a rush. That being said, to assume we're looking to move the specific pieces we've been searching for doesn't make sense for MTL. Maybe there's a 3-team option where you get the RHD you're after but this would just be what MTL should top out there offer at, if someone throws everything + the kitchen sink at you for him (like LA did to WPG) then take it a laugh all the way to the bank.

Aside from the significant overpay, this offer at least makes some sense for Anaheim.
The bulk of the value is in the top 10 pick this year, while Mailloux fills an organizational need.

I don't think they'd be able to get a better combination of 1st + RHD prospect from another team without sacrificing value, but they may be able to get two fairly equal high picks from someone like Arizona.
Arizona may actually be their best hope for a return simply because Zegras is marketable and they have so many picks. Those picks can then be used toward picking up a RHD that already has some development in rather than drafting from this year's class, which is heavy on more offensive D.
