People judge Kakko exclusively on his point production, but he is the best defensive forward on the team and the Rangers’ record with him in the lineup is 17-4-1. The Rangers have no need to trade him as long as he is contract demands are relatively cheap.

NYR wouldn’t accept that anyways. Overpay or not. We value him knowing that once his offensive side kicks in he is going to be a beast.

Rangers will be in cap crunch situation by the next 2 season. They very might entertain the idea of moving on from Kakko since he need to be qualified at 2,4 millions.
With the emergence of Cuylle, Kakko futur become more and more uncertain with the Rangers.

People know, they just hope we only track stats. It’s kind of a joke when these posts and comments happen. At least OP gave some decent value here, normally it’s 1/2 that package

No they won’t be. The “Cap crunch” has been going on for the last 3 years and it’s never been an issue. No OS threats either. This is a non issue for NYR

If the Rangers are pressed for cap they’d get rid of a bloated contract, not a young middle-six winger making less than 3% of the cap.

Also Cuylle plays LW, Kakko plays RW.

Ow I fully think he can have a Nichushkin like resurgence, NY just has to wait for it. The real question will be if Kakko feels like he isn't getting enough opportunity and wants out so he can get that opportunity.

NYR should wait it out but if the player wants out then they'll be forced to sell low on him and let another team take that chance

1. He’s been getting the opportunity
2. He has never indicated he wants out(equivalent to saying CC wants out of MTL)
3. NYR has lots of time to wait for it(this window continues for some time with Gabe and Otter in the wings and more 1sts to come).

He's not even averaging 14 minutes a night ..... Don't know how that's getting opportunity. CC signed an 8 year deal, Kakko took a short deal to bet on himself and it hasn't exactly worked out for him YET, could still turn it around.

I don't see how Gabe and Otter are positives for Kakko. If anything he just sees more competition for his top 6 role and if they come in and get that role then it just pushes him further out the door

He's back in the top 6, he started the season in the top 6. He got hurt...
The only thing he's not getting is pp1 time.
People are assuming that he's on the verge of bust territory, but before the season Laf was the player who were concerned about, not him. Last season he put up 40 points, with almost all of them coming at ES. Thats a 50-60 pt season with very strong defensive numbers. Thats a solid d+4 season.
Kakko's defensive ability is something most of the other wingers in the top 6 dont really bring, and his game is perfect for the playoffs. We're not moving him for scraps or short term.

Who said they want to trade him? Lmao

A lot of people are confused by actual value VS the value it would take to acquire the player

Like I said above, NY should hang on to him because he can have a Nichushkin resurgence but if that doesn't happen and Gabe or Otter come in and start getting more ice time than him then it's likely he would start wanting to look for other opportunities. And if that happens then no one is paying a premium for a defence first middle six winger and the price above is likely close to what the return is.

It's all hypothetical on this site and NYR are doing the right thing as of now, Kakko will eventually have a say though and if he isn't happy with the situation then he will force their hand

NYR clearly don't want to trade him, the question is if Kakko wants to stay. If next year comes along and he is still getting 14 mins a night, he won't be happy to be there anymore. Add the fact that you have Otter and Gabe coming up, if they get more opportunities than him then he definitely will want out and at that point I think you'd be lucky to get a return like the one above

He wasn’t fitting the top 6 at the beginning of the year but he was getting the opportunity. Now PP1 is a different story and few teams could accommodate for him or Laf on their pp1. So no issues there. He was move around to try and get him going. Then injured. Now on the top line again. But you think he isn’t getting the chances 🤔. As for the other kids, it’s not about chance or competition, it’s about showing that NYR has a long window for competing. Too many fans like yourself think that this is the last year for NYr to contend, same was said about last year and the year before that 😂. There’s no rush for Kakko to be a 10M player, we need highly D forwards to make low salaries today so it doesn’t effect us and we all know he’s going to be somewhere around a Nichuskin in the years to come. DAL messed that up but Drury won’t

Literally my entire point is that Kakko may not want to be there. It doesn't matter what NYR window is, if he doesn't think he is being used properly , isn't getting the chance to reach his full potential or has to watch other prospects pass him by then he is going to want out.

And if he wants out then you're looking at a Newhook type return.

NYR don't need to trade him, they don't want to trade him but if they want him to just stay a middle six winger and he wants to be more than that, then they'll be forced to move him

Yes because every young player loves wasting his potential by becoming a defensive specialist and missing out on millions of dollars
