Description
Complete analyze: 2024 is the last year of the rebuild. In 2025 Montreal are going to start being competitive.
Here is the step of a rebuild.
1. Trade your players to get draft picks.
2. Draft players that will be your core.
3. Add veterans to the team to help the development of the core.
4. When the core is ready, add support players. The veterans can be trade for prospect or high picks.
5. Team ready to go competitive.

The players in the core are
-Nick Suzuki
-Cole Caufield
-Juraj Slafkovsky
-Kirby Dach
-Kaiden Guhle
-Justin Barron
David Reinbacher, Joshua Roy, Alex Newhook and Lane Hutson could be consider like key players in the futur but they haven't play that much since they are with the Canadiens.
Montreal are at step 4. They have already some support player at the offense like Jake Evans, Jesse Ylonen or Michel Stephens. But the things is at defense, they have over 10 futur NHL defenseman. They have to make place for the younger guys like Reinbacher and Hutson.

The plan is to trade the veterans to make place to the prospect that are pushing to play in the big league. Maybe have 5 guys around 30 years old in the team to make sure that the attitude is good and to show the example.
Gallagher and Anderson definitely are the perfect players for this role.
I want no hate, no sarcasm. Just tell me what is wrong with the trade gently.

Dallas declines. Rather keep Bourque, who’s torching the AHL, than trade him for a bottom-6 forward Dallas doesn’t need and a late 2nd

Edmonton doesn't even consider that trade. Why would they ever retain 2.5 million when the buy out in the offseason is 1.5 million.

If Edmonton trades Campbell they wont be retaining. If there is a trade to be made it will be with one that knows they are going to be buying Campbell out in the offseason.

Lets take a team like Chicago. Edmonton trade Campbell plus 2024 1st to Chicago. Chicago buys out Campbell in the offseason. The buy out for Chicago is only 1.5 million per season. Essentially Chicago gets a 1st to buyout Campbell and take up 1.5 Million in cap space for the next 6 years. With the cap going up so much over the next few years its pretty minor.

And if Edmonton cant trade him they will just buy him out themselves in the off season.

Because they heavily favor the Habs. Monahan and matheson might get a first if the Habs are lucky. Savard maybe a 2nd. Oilers aren’t going to retain half on Campbell that defeats the point of trading him. They would rather just buy him out I bet.

Dvorak doesn’t have much value if any. I’d rather have maverick than a 2nd.

Why would Seattle trade a great pick by them less than a year ago for 2 players that do nothing for them?

Matheson a first if Montreal lucky. You gotta be joking. 2 first if they are lucky. I mean he is top 10 offensive defenseman in the league. I can understand the Dvorak trade. Monahan is definitely worth a 1st round pick.

colorado trade, pittsburg and carolina are in the realm of possibility. carolina a bit less but the return could be possible from another team.

dallas and seattle makes no sense, they will keep their to prospect, just like we want to keep ours.

emdonton will buyout campbell. you can get probably a second for savard.

    you undersell on matheson.

johnson is a really bad fir for mtl, wehave enough small fowards.

Now, the big problem. if both gally And anderson are on our top 9, dont think we compete. A ufa top 6 winger is needed.

makes way more sense to keep matheson, our defence is way too unexperience to compete without any real veteran. Even more on the right side, Unless they improve big time. T

I think the Avs would see him as an upgrade over RyJo, who is also not a fit, but not at the cost of a 1st. I could see Behrens or Olausson and a 3rd or something like that but no way are they trading a 1st for a rental of any kind, period.

Don't see many of these being accepted maybe the monahan value and The oilers do it only if we take all of campbell contract. Don't think matheson is a fit with washington even if they do want to make a push with ovi.

As per LeBrun, Edmonton has no plans on trading Campbell by the TDL as it will likely cost 2 1st round picks. The plan is to revisit trading him vs buyout in the offseason. This report came after LeBrun spoke directly with Holland. Now things can change between now and the TDL so that has to be kept in mind if a trade does happen. See link to story below

Agreed until that part. $9M isn't minor, it's a lot of real money, even for rich teams. Worth at least a 1st+2nd.

The plan is for Holland to retire at the end of the season and Jeff Jackson taking over. Exiting GMs usually don't trade away high value futures (except for Dumbas), as it is a decision too important that the next guy should evaluate since he will need to work with the consequences.

But if EDM starts another loosing streak and Holland gets fired before TDL, all cards will be on the table.
