I seriously doubt that LA would have traded Clarke/Kempe/Vilardi for Marner/Samsonov. Would have been a really bad move on the Kings part if that were to happen, I mean all 3 of the Kings players fit in under Marners cap hit alone.

Dubas wouldn't have moved the big 4 either but he would have done something better about the defence.

The value isn't far off when you look at what they paid for Dubois (Iafallo, Kupari, Villardi, 2nd).

Their team is much better with this deal than the PLD one.

Talking heads putting words into his mouth with their speculation isn't rumors. It's made up click bait. The fact that he didn't trade any of the core in Pittsburgh sure supports that he wouldn't have moved one of the core for TO.

LA would not have done that. Kempe at $5.5M is significantly better than Marner at 8 figures. Take out Clarke and still no.

The Kings gave up what they considered to be three expendable assets in exchange for Dubois. They view neither of Kempe nor Clarke to be expendable, but rather core pieces of the future.

If you want to build a trade for Marner around Vilardi, Iafallo, and Kupari, then maybe there would have been a deal to be made, but still probably not.

Vilardi is Vilardi
Kempe holds way more value than Iafallo
Brandt Clarke is ofc more valueable than Kupari and a 2nd

Samsonov was hardly the top desirable goalie at the time neither, or else the Leafs would probably have signed him for more than a year.
