If Nylander signs a long term deal and his linemates are Alex Newhook and Jake Evans, what’s the point?

Could also say if Willy was coming with an extension that aint getting him unless its at the draft and they know that picks very high (Celibrate lul)

Like lets be real with the season hes having and if he came with an extension the return would be crazy and I doubt he would go to a divisional rival

I guess my point here is: what’s the point of signing a high end goal scoring UFA if your top 6 includes Jake Evans and/or Alex Newhook? This Habs team doesn’t have the talent to compete yet.

Hes only 27 and theyll have the money to sign another in FA. They cant draft or tank properly so might as well trade for it

I didn’t even look at the return tbh. That gets beat by a lot of playoff teams. Dude would get a haul as a rental.

Montreal has plenty of young assets but why would they be in the market for someone like Nylander at this stage of the rebuild?

More than a 60 point pace d man, 10-15 overall 1st rounder, starting goalie and a middle 6 prospect? Its Nylander, not Draisaitl

I just explained it but ill go further. Nylander is 27 years old. The core Suzuki and Caufield have 6 years remaining. Thats 6 years to win on their current deal. Nylander would be 33 when those deals end. Just starting the decline. Habs have a lot of young pieces but none of them are truly elite and they cant tank. So you go out and acquire one

If you think any other teams in the league can give a 60 point pace Dman, top 15 pick and a good goalie swap while saving them cap space

The Leafs could easily turn around and get Tarasenko or Guentzel. They improve their d core significantly and their top 6 is still strong

Matheson is inconsistent and a LD. Toronto is looking for a RD

Like Tanev, Larsson, Girard, etc.

In general I just dont see him getting moved unless the offer is insane. If he comes with an extension PLD and Eichel trades about to get competition for best trade

Samsonov > Allen

Matheson would play on the second pairing for most teams. He’s probably an underrated guy but “pace” in “60 point pace” is doing a lot of work there for a guy that’s never had a 35 point season and will be 30 this year.

Montreal is a mediocre team right now with some good young players. I don’t think adding Nylander moves them into contention. Better to accumulate assets for longer instead of accelerating the rebuild with a $10M+ UFA.

Simply NO chance the Leafs trade Willy within the division 🤦🏻. Better and more likely option is that Leafs to extend Willy & then target a top 4RHD in FA. Habs could target a FA like Reinhart if he’s available 🤷🏻

Girard is a Dman who can play both sides and was mostly Byram's partner this season whose their second pair LD

If we also look at his previous seasons he mostly was on the right side

So yes RD

Btw just as it hasn't been said, it should go without saying that the Avs should decline to give up a first for SM.

Let's not pretend Matheson and Allen are something to the Leafs that they aren't. Matheson, while a very fine Dman, is not going to put up numbers like that on a team that already has it's PP QB, and Allen is a 33 y/o back up goalie.
