Samsonov is the least important piece coming back, dude. He's a UFA cap eat, big whoop. Niemela is a decent prospect with a high ceiling. Also think you're overplaying Gudbrandson's importance in the scheme of things. He's just an overpaid over 30 meh Dman who will only be in the way soon enough.

In the summer? Sure. Move Gudbranson. But right now? Nope. Forgive me if I'm not salivating over the opportunity to move a leader from a team with no other leadership (Werenski is useless and Jenner is out probably til February), and the rest of the team either doesn't speak English or is an average age of 20) for the opportunity to do Toronto a solid by throwing away one of our own goalies, someone else's third round pick, and a prospect who's a lesser Adam Boqvist who might crack the top ten list of Columbus's own prospect pool. What a great deal!

I get that Gud fills a role for Columbus, but I think the team is much tougher than it was three years ago when that need became apparent. He's okay right now, but he's got two more years left after this so I think getting out from Gud's contract now would be a win, especially considering the log-jam at RD and Peeke and Boqvist not having much real interest right now.

Also, I think the addition of Samsonov would allow them to move Elvis to EDM also.

And I'm not opposed to moving him in the summer or next season. But he is important to this team for this year now, especially with the loss of Jenner, and he is a better option than either Peeke or Boqvist on the ice (at least for the role we need him to fill).

Moving Elvis to Edmonton means taking Campbell back, so then we have the same issue: four ****-tier goalies. We might be on the Titanic, but that doesn't mean we have to move the deck chairs around for the hell of it.
