What Tkachuk brings not easily replaceable. He plays a physical game, plays with emotion, is highly skilled. He's on a good contract, signed long-term. He's still very young.

Sens need more players like Tkachuk. You aren't getting a player like that with a late first unless you are REALLY lucky at drafting. So why give him up for a chance to maybe get a player like him.

Sens core is signed long-term. They don't need to free up much, if any, cap space. And if they do, there are 18/19 guys on the roster they would trade before Brady. They want to compete now, not get picks and prospects to compete in 5 years.

You want a teams captain and arguably their best player? you have to give up something of substantial worth. Not a winger with four measly goals on the year, a late 1st, a late second, and a prospect that *could* turn into a second line player.
Sens could easily ask for McAvoy and it would be perfectly reasonable. This package doesn't come close
