I doubt CHI would even retain 500k for 7 years. Locking up a retention slot for that long is just not feesible. Over the next 3 to 5 years CHI's cap space is going to be eaten up pretty quickly, and that retention would be a huge headache waiting to happen. Plus, this just isn't enough to justify moving Jones even without retention. Unless, KD has some plan that he REALLY needs that cap space for and is willing to take the retention cap hit, which I highly doubt.

Value-wise its okay but probably not the exact pieces CHI is looking for. Retention is probably a non starter too. Jones is overpayed by 1-2M but CHI has no reason to move him unless an offer really wows them. He's a really good defeseman and his cap hit will realistically never be an actual problem that prevents the hawks from signing FAs with all the cost controlled young players on their roster and the rising cap.

Timmins is better than Peeke.....so how is this a big swing? Brodie likely doesn't have a last place team on his trade list. Leafs are infinitely better have Niemala, Steeves and a first rounder rather than 8m Jones.

Sure, when Timmijs is on the ice, he is better, but he's on IR so often I would rather have Peeke if I'm a GM, because at least I can count on him to be available when I need him.

Also OP, you have to know, no one's giving up an asset for Samsonov. After Caps let's him walk for nothing, and now you'd have to move him for his cap space, you'd be lucky to get FC for him, but more than likely have to attach a sweetener.
