That’s an awfully weird comparison considering Berggren has played 7 games and Monahan has played 30.
Thats why I used ppg I could've used p60 Berggren's p60 is 3.4 and Monahan's is a 1.9. But it wasn't the only reason there is a 6yr age gap that I mentioned. If Monahan continues at his current pace he will finish with about 50 pts and will more than likely the most term he can get and a lot more than $2M. But Honestly I don't think it matters because I don't think they make the playoffs and if they do happen to sneak in to a wild card spot I don't see Yzerman buying. This team isn't a playoff team and it wasn't meant to be playoff team.
This ties in to your comment above about Monahan and Detroit. You said he's a character guy I honesty don't know much about him off the ice. But I can see that Brian Burke is big on character as well and he really likes him. But I'm just not sure where he will fit in and Yzerman was unwilling to give up Berggren in the DeBrincat trade so I don't see him doing so for Monahan. Yzerman wants most of our prospects to develop together. So over the past couple of seasons he has signed a bunch of UFAs to fill roster spots. Mostly because he didn't want to spend a bunch of picks and prospects trading for players. Most of the UFAs signed over the past couple of offseason are little more than place holders.
Petry 36 Will finish out his contract in his home town and retire
Perron 35 His contract is up at the end of the season and he could be traded at the TDL. I wouldn't mind him sticking around Detroit for another season or 2 but he is 35 so it would be a year by year.
Kane 35 I think he gets traded at the TDL If he was content just finishing out his career he would've signed in Buffalo his home town. His son is 3 and that's why I think Kane wants one more cup.
Chariot 32 and Holl 31 We are probably stuck with.
Ghost 30 I'd like Ghost to stay he's been really solid at both ends of the ice but I'm not sure Yzerman will give him the money and term he can get elsewhere.
Maatta 29 Maatta does have a season left but he could be traded he's a solid and inexpensive defensive defenseman.
Larkin is listed week to week and went on to the IR on the 11th he could come back for the game on the 20th or 22nd but I doubt he misses the New Years game. Even if he's out longer I don't think Yzerman gives up futures for a 29yr old Monahan. Using Monahan to replace Larkin is like using a band-aid on a bullet wound. But value wise I think it's a lot more reasonable than other Monahan trades i've seen. he's just not the right fit for Detroit.
